Troyy, for the moment Iam not using mny strings ... for the Smoke on the water riff i use the A and D string ... and for the Aerial (system of a down) riff from the chorus I use the E and A strings ... Iam a newbie ... those are my 2 first riff ever. I think i'll need a LOADS of practice before startng to make multiple fret-string stuff, look so hard to make ...

I mean, are you just using one string?
- benfal990

try http://www.guitartab.com for tabs and basic guitar lessons.
and if you want to take it further, check http://www.visualguitar.com for scales
you could broaden your range of music beyond the slipknot sound, if you're interested in getting further with your guitar.
jimmy james and the blue flames, perhaps.

thanks jimmyjames, iam looking for tabs at the moment!

learn to play all the songs by the misfits, they are super easy and super fun, it is a good start

Hey perfect, my friend is selling his Schecter guitar:
http://www.jonhuther.com/ebay/eb…
for $300
Great for heavy music! That would leave you with 300 left over for the other stuff you need.
Let me know if you need more info.

line 6 pod

first check out guitargeek.com. they have these neato diagrams of famous players' rigs.
guitar: a solid body with at least one humbucker, preferably active, for lots of gain. something slick like a Charvel/Jackson, Carvin or Ibanez RG with a wide, flat neck and lots of frets (24). you probably want a locking tremolo, too, for all that dive bombing and such. buy it used, but make sure the whammy is in good shape. make sure it looks cool. $200
amp: prolly marshall, although i'm not sure about this dept., since i don't play metal and don't care for the Marshall sound anyway. maybe a Peavey 5150. buy it used. $300
effects: line 6 Pod would be good. analog or digital distortion? prolly digital for that kind of music: the ol' Boss Distortion should do the trick. for analog: RAT, Big Muff, Ibanez Tube Screamer. definitely a compressor. maybe an EQ. delays are good, too. other toys: ring modulator, noise gate, phaser/flanger, pitch shifter/harmonizer. $100
good luck and have fun!

matt25, actually the Ibanez GAX30 is only 150$
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/s…
I live in Montreal, quebec, canada .. so in canadian dollars that mean something around 250$ with taxes
- matt250
marshall amps rock
guitar looks nice but wouldn't surprise me if it was more than $450
In guitars it is either low or high. there isn't much of a middle ground price wise. If you are going to go low, I would buy an Epiphone (Gibson JR)
- benfal990
What do you guys think of that??
Ibanez GAX30
http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/gu…with an
AMP: Marshall MG15DFXcombo
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/s…I'll start learning with that and later buy pedals and effects, is it a good idea ?
- matt250
i actually read some of the responses so I am changing my advice
buy a BC RIch Warlock - you can get one for around $300
- matt250
epihone all the way - get one of those mini squier amps or something
