Sucks, your comments. I have had problem with Javascript, XML, and viewing of most webpages I frequent. MY resume does not work in Opera, Im using XML, XSL HTML & Javascript to display the XML resume and on Opera it just takes a big crap.

And they want you to buy it?
Long live Microsoft!

I don't use it and probably never will ;)

I went to a job interview a few days ago & every one of their developers were using it. They were all on windows machines too?
Are they just trying to be cool?
Some peopl think that if they are using the alternative to anything Microsoft they are cool. Like me I just started using PHP & MySQL So Im cool right? But not because I use Opera.
Anyways at the job interview my resume would not come up & opera kept getting JS errors, I said I had no idea why they were using it. they did not respond. Just opened up IE and everything worked properly.

Opera is a much better development platform, it simply has a lot more features that IE doesn't have as far as an interface goes (multiple development modes, tabs etc.) Its CSS compliancy is streets ahead of IE and better than mozilla so there are strong reasons to use it rather than IE. But its use of the javascript DOM is not ideal and so for javascript intensive web applications it does have issues. You should use it for testing purposes alone though. Don't go blaming Opera or any kind of 'alternative' culture you presume to be behind it because you were too lazy to test your own code. Alot of people have put a lot of effort into making an alternative so i don't have to fuck around with 20 ie windows on my screen at once. When Opera properly supports javascript then it will be a force to be reckoned with. PS. You probably shouldn't question the development platforms of potential employers during an interview. Did you get the job Btw?

I asked alot of questions about everything they did. We have been in touch and they plan on letting me join the team. I do not have a job with them today though. I help run a small hosting & design company now so I can't start right away. We got along well and I didn't ask rudely. Dont try and make it out like im stupid.
Im sorry but my Javascript is perfect on the page it was getting erros on, and works in every other browser. Opera needs to have sufficient Javascript compatibility considering NEARLY every site on the web uses it in one way shape or form.

i agree that opera doesn't always work as it should, although it does a pretty damned good job.
But the assertion that all or even most web pages use javascript is hardly realistic.
Actaully I run into less and less javascript all the time.

Sorry 187, I wasn't trying to make out that you were stupid, but when testing for all browsers thats should include opera, I've built some apps that have javascript problems in opera but they degrade gracefully rather than throwing errors. In any case, i was simply pointing out that opera supporters shouldn't be labeled as some kind of anti-microsoft 'clique'. they are doing something that needs to be done, microsoft has been very lax in its develoment of IE and I consider it to be the most archaic browser of the top three at the moment. Mozilla is good all around, but its CSS is abit wonky. Opera is almost perfect apart from its wonky javascript DOM stuff, but its ability to re-arrange and custmise its own interface with such ease is amazing, and should be recognised.

What is so bad about IE?
What makes it Archaic?YOu explained in detail the problems with the browsers you support but when you mentioned IE and it's Cons, you just said "Lax Development" What in IE is so Lax?
Works better for me than any other browser, Displays sites better than any other browser for me too?
Im not doubting you, just asking you to elaborate on IE's Cons and what it doesn't support .

IE =
little or no interface customisations(no skins, no colour sachemes), looks ugly as f*** and no way to change it, opera lets you drag elemnts around and put them where you want
no tabs! for christ sake its 2003, why does one app need sooo many windows
favorites interface is too old, too many steps involved to organise bookmarks
no zoom (you'd be surprised how useful this becomes very quickly)
NO DEVELOPMENT MODES!!!
way too big, Opera is 3,339KB
and of course that nonsense with the statusbar turning itself on and off at will in XP
- corin0
oh, and its css support is almost offensive
- corin0
And why whenever i get prompted for the java virtual machine install it takes me to a page that no longer works at microsoft

I love opera as an alternative borwser. The feature of mouse gestures or how is it called, where you can go back and forth by right-left click or left-right click is superb on usability! And yes, the tabs and zoom are very useful. I hope the best for opera!
- HAMT0
what's the difference btw the free one and the one you pay for?
- corin0
t has an ad in the top left hand corner
- 187LockDown0
Tabs are cool
Why can't I figure out how to hide all that shit on the left, I dont need it open all the time.
Displays framed sites fucked up sometimes.
Im sure it will grow on me.
Where do I acces all of my Toolbar options.
- 187LockDown0
Development Mode?
How do I use Dev Mode?
How Can it help me?

you can call everyone lazy who says so but having one solid browser out there that suppoerts the latest standards makes developement A LOT more easier - i hate testing all the shit down to mozilla opera netscape safari blaaah
i´m not against alternatives but when it comes to some language there really should be a broad standard - imagine if everyone would speak it´s own language...
anyway for me mozilla seems to be the way best alternative for IE by now...
happy alternating
- lilbabyleg0
no shit. don't even bother with it. just stick with IE. we'll all sleep better under our desks.

So I was searching some sites today and I fell upon one where I really wanted to get a closer look at how the graphics were done, and I didn't want to screenshot & PS / Zoom.
So I used the zooming option in Opera. I retract my previous comment. It is of use.
