Opera is a much better development platform, it simply has a lot more features that IE doesn't have as far as an interface goes (multiple development modes, tabs etc.) Its CSS compliancy is streets ahead of IE and better than mozilla so there are strong reasons to use it rather than IE. But its use of the javascript DOM is not ideal and so for javascript intensive web applications it does have issues. You should use it for testing purposes alone though. Don't go blaming Opera or any kind of 'alternative' culture you presume to be behind it because you were too lazy to test your own code. Alot of people have put a lot of effort into making an alternative so i don't have to fuck around with 20 ie windows on my screen at once. When Opera properly supports javascript then it will be a force to be reckoned with. PS. You probably shouldn't question the development platforms of potential employers during an interview. Did you get the job Btw?
