So after a year I went to UWs site and found this...
I think this is the worst education site for a school of this size.
I emailed the webmaster peeps and chewed them out for putting up such a crap site. Their response was, that I should use constructive crit. How can you with this site.
I think everybody here should do the same and support me in my endevor.... I already got another big university to change thiers after a big email campaign.

hmm... they redesigned...doesn't look like 1996 anymore.
what exactly makes the site so bad? the homepage is a bit better than eh, the 2nd level stuff needed margins around the boxes... but I think I've seen worse...

ya... its not 1996 anymore.. they stepped back to 1994 atleast...
drop shadows.. monotone.. even worse than NT the menus are all over the place.. the blue menu is wayyyy right on a large screen.. colors suck .. i seriously thought i was at the wrong college... the lines look shoddy and cheap.. as it zigs through the site... the bullets look like broken images.... there is no grid system what so ever so it makes it look like each section was thrown on there like splatter from a paint brush.... the news pic hugs the white line....
should i go on...

yeah...k... it doesn't look good.
I happen to like that color, probably is what gave me the impression it wasn't half bad.

yeah, it's hellish looking. 96-02 was a lot better. but the school is awesome :)!!!!!

i went to college in tacoma (www.ups.edu) and it's been a struggle for years to get them to get to where they are now. too many trustees, etc. are just running old netscape 4 so they don't care what it looks like. what they have is decent on the front page, i think, but the rest is the old design.
one thing you should consider is that high-ups could care less how it looks, so long as its usable. the UW site does look pretty well easy to get around, even if it is a bit ugly. that's the most important part.
if you're on a college search, dont judge by a website.. a college with an ugly web-site may be an indicator of a poor college, or it may be an indicator that it isn't osbsessed with marketing and image and instead focuses all its resources on the students.

If you have a problem with it (and I agree it is terrible) then like the guy replied, be construactive about it.
Offer your help and opinions on how they could make it better - explain the ideas behind information and web design and site architecture....maybe mock up a few ideas...
