Yes, it was boring. I didn't leave the theatre, but I expected more, given what the first movie was. The first movie was a very well-balanced counterpoint, a good composition, and a bold new aesthetic. Granted, I knew it would be impossible to be as 'new' as the first one was, but I still expected a decent organization, a top-notch set of aesthetic choices, and a handful of clever, inventive moments. This movie had none of those. It seems as if they had hired any generic music video director to make a Matrix movie. It had none of the compositional restraint, elegance, or taste of the original --- the "art" of the original if I may be so oblique. This movie was joyless, prefunctory, bloated, and conventional --- everything the first one was not. So, verdict = stinky. There's a frame of reference for ya.

I think 'what makes a good sci-fi movie' is a provocative combination of story and style. When you're writing/designing future style you get to invent stuff, break rules, imagine all sorts of future scenarios that have some resonance with how we live today and the choices we will have to make as we move forward. What might it be like to confront some issue or problem as a planet? How as a film-maker do you present the unimaginable or the never-before-seen?
Those facets are perhaps unique to sci-fi, but you still have to pay attention to the basic foundations of making a good movie (sci-fi or not). Good writing, acting, plot-lines, dramatic devices. Making the audience have a stake in an outcome and caring. Any decent film has to be more than just eye-candy or it's just a 2 hour music video --- which is not necessarily unpleasant, but not much of a film.

this is kind of like those people who go to a WWE match and walk away going "what the fuck, god is that so fake" instead of walking away feeling "entertained". Agreed there were some crappy scenes, i.e. the dance, the lovemaking (for fucks sake at least they could have shown trinity's ass) the "i'm sorry" "for what" "this" fight that is pointless. but i did walk away from the movie entertained.
My only question is that for an R rated movie why weren't more people killed? Wheres all the blood? I mean damn... Neo's in a room FILLED with weapons which we all know he could like "Jedi mind trick" and throw them at the bad guys, but no, he fights hand to hand and doesn't kill a single one of the fuckers. No blood, no heads getting cut off, no maming. I was dissapointed but in the end, walked away entertained. Those who are over the edge critical of movies are never going to be satisfied.... and that sucks.

aye, it was pish....trenchcoats convention.in the cinema...waste of my time and brass but , then again it was worth it for bellucci...IRREVERSIBLE being a better use of money, in fact value for money, a nine minute rape scene is always worth the money!!

I'm not 'never-satisfied' --- I'm picky and snobby and have high-standards. As a designer shouldn't I?
When something is shite I don't feel bad about saying it. When someone has done something great before I expect them to do something great again. When it's obviouly subpar I think it's only reality to say, "I expected more" that's all.
