James Joyce quote I dont really understand as there are many problems every day in my life that I can instantly see many different solutions to and the lateral consequences. working in flash for example, there are always at least 5 ways to do the same thing and to choose the best way you must consider the lateral consequences.
In what sense did Joyce mean this in relation to a genius?

no hard work doesn't equal genius it is the key factor in producing genius, no so called genius would be anywhere if they didn't have a sustained focused effort on something ...regardless of genetics, social alienation, physical ability the right school...
- DonnieTV0
Do you really think that hard work is the most important thing to becoming a genius?
I can't see it. Does that mean that if you work hard enough you can become a genius?
If the answer is that you have to have the 'x' factor as well then surely that's the most imporatnt part, because anyone can work hard.

Enobrev glad you liked them, its true that Geniuses are often far from perfect people.
Take Hitler for example. although the most evil sadistic person to ever have walked the planet he was also a genius.
- DonnieTV0
Why was Hitler a genius and how is it calculated?
- Mimio0
He was making reference to the creative act of writing. If you're familiar with him as an author you'd know the complexity of it is mind-boggling. He's basically describing a moment in his own process. If you can actualize five solutions in an instant, good for you. The more learned you become, the more difficult and complex the solutions can be.

Donnie, do you really think the ability to solve comp[lex issues is inherent?
And not everyone can work hard. The ability to tune out the rest of the world in order to work towards a goal is actaully incredibly hard. Thus the small percentage of well known geniuses.

yeah substance abuse seems to be around very talented people but what about all the plumbers and truck drivers and teachers and prostitues that get fucked regularly? drugs are around period, like sex and whatever else human beings do. there's no direct link ...if you're a genius plumber does that mean your an alcoholic plumber?

Pure determination can (if you are lucky) be a major factor in you becoming a genius, it is in my opinion a kind of intelligence, natural talent.
Look at great leaders of people for example, many of them werent particularly exceptional in their natural ability, just incredibly determined and willing to sacrifice their lives for a cause.
- Mimio0
Hitler wasn't a genius, in fact he had a severe inferiority complex as a result of numerous rejections to his artwork and writing.
- enobrev0
don't get me wrong, i wasn't making the connection in that way.
The connection i was making is that they have very human and well known addictions. It takes them off the pedestal and shows them as well learned and practiced human beings, whio still have natural urges to get high, or laid or whatever.
We all have our own vices, which is a good thing. I've always had a hard time trusting anyone who doesn't admit to any vices or obsessions of their own.

you could bang your head against a brick for hours, it'd be a lot of work but you wouldn't be a genius,
bottom line nobody does anything if they don't do something...great ideas don't come out your ass and they don't come out with you from your mom's poodle...that's the point,
- enobrev0
i don't know mimio, mass manipulation to that grotesque degree seems pretty ingenious to me.
- DonnieTV0
enobrev - I never said the ability to solve complex issues was inherent.
What I said was that I don't think working hard is the most important factor to being a genius and I think your equation of 'number of people that can work hard is small therefore working hard equals genius' is a bit ropey to say the least.
It's not "incredibly hard" to concentrate and work to a goal, it is however incredibly hard to become more naturally intelligent than you already are.

yeah everyones neurotic to a certain extent and if you havn't recognized that you're lost and i feel sorry for you

DonnieTV, Hitler was a genius orator, genius speaker, genius politician, genius controller of people, genius tacticion.
Evil fucker but genius all the same.
Churchill was also a genius which is why Hitler lost the war....well and the Yanks and the Russians might have something to say about that but....
- Mal0
- DonnieTV0
Hitler lost, so he wasn't a genius tactician and think the other points are questionable as well. If you become a leader of your country are you automatically a genius?
As you say Churchill had the Americans for help or he could easily have lost, so it was unlikely he was a genius either.
- unknown0
i think rasko's friend is a genious for figuring out how to piss over thirty feet... im still laughing over that one
- Mimio0
Hitler may have beleived he was a genius, but he wasn't. Definitely a talented leader and tactician. Geniuses pursue knowledge not power.
