The script development fostered some highly creative things, like the Animatrix, which looks pretty flushed-out. These guys are jsut having fun trying to making a cult film. You can't fault them too much.

you can't 'try' and make a cult film. it doesn't work. that thinking is symptomatic of the crisis in film as it stands regarding filmmakers, aging from their mid teens to their late 20s. This is not realy just a film, it's a symbiotic relationship between Market Research and FX advances....people, that's the film....while aren't we watching a film about making this sort of film? Why aren't we watching a screentest in which Keanu Reeves masterbates on an X BOX while screaming his salary ? This is not a 'homage' in the nature of something like 'Pulp Fiction' nor is it a 'bricolage'....this is pure coca cola.

I don't know man... Barbarella was basically created to be a cult film. It has succeeded at that as well.

no, i think they thought that shit would get an oscar....snort snort

I guess I'm trying to say that the Matrix screenwriting is deliberately self-aware. Paying homage to a genre of storytelling.
- ********0
there's no storytelling in that...where, show me....
- Mimio0
It's the whole Heroic Epic thing. Neo the reluctant - love stricken - Messiah.
Have you watched the movie at all?
- ********0
neo, the reluctant? i walked out on the first one...but, i forgot, who is this Neo guy, where's he from? What was his family life like? What about his love interest? What has tested their relationship?

neo, the reluctant? i walked out on the first one...
too bad..ya missed a pretty fun movie.
but, i forgot, who is this Neo guy,
that'd be keanu's character, who goes by the online name neo...much like you go by loudobs and i go by exador
where's he from?
undetermined urban sprawl
What was his family life like?
appears to be a loner...
What about his love interest?
that'd be TrinityWhat has tested their relationship?
i suppose his self doubt..
and possibly hers..
or something like that..
seriously..
it's a fun movie..
most people really enjoyed it.
;)

Exador, his fatuousness was there to thinly veil his formulaic understanding of movie making and storytelling. I'm not sure he deserved such a kind response from you.

whoa, scary, dude
- exador0
hahah..
yeah..i sort of figured that, but thought i'd make the effort..
;)anyhow, i loved the 1st movie, and hopefully will be seeing the new one this weekend..
cheers

I'm off to see the film in ten minutes!

as a movie it sucked.
as a display of special effects, it was pretty good. (the brute brawl scene still looked more like a friggin video game than reality)
maybe i'm just one of those people that still believe a film should an interesting plot, non-clunky ("where the fuck is this going?") pacing, and a minimum of stomped-into-the-ground visual and dialogue cliches.

you guys keep acting like you have to have a degree in psychology to understand the matrix.
the first one did have certain mythological themes (which is what made it a great movie in the first place, apart from the fx), but the second didn't have shit. it was a superficial two-hour mish-mash of bad dialogue and hollywood cliches.
i mean c'mon.

No matter what anyone says I'm going to watch it tomorrow. I enjoyed the first movie a lot. And I know that the this one will be just as entertaining. I'm going for the fx mostly cuz they really look awesome. If the plot is shitty who cares it's a movie and it takes to away from everyday duties.

Some of my friends went to see it yesterday at 9am for a school trip. It was Media Studies class, and I took it last semester, but obviously the movie wasn't out before. Almost everyone I talked to said that the plot was not as great as they expected, but everything else about the movie was great. I'm a little disappointed to hear that since it's one of my favourite movies, but as long as the chemistry between Neo and Trinity goes on, it's all good :)
No but seriously, I think the plot is important for a film and most people here seem to like the movie for its look. Which is good, but it would be even better if the plot was great. Hopefully I'll like it and write again once I see it on Sunday.
