How could I say this? Well, I thought the martial arts, visual effects, and cinematography were beautiful.
But I think the Wachowski brothers just got caught up in their own bullshit when it comes to the screen play, writing, and achitecture of The Matrix. There were definite moments in the film where actors used redundant lines that made no sense. It was more frustrating than satisfying.
Your thoughts? Oh, and I think I avoided any spoilers, pls do the same in this discussion.

So you're saying that it looked good, but the story was crap.
Well done for starting that topic.

I think its an awsome movie, great action scenes, and not very good music...
hehe
Haven't seen it yet

hey reddawn.. you really should go to www.thematrix.com and read about the philosophy behind the matrix before you try and make sense of the story, it will help you understand more. i thought the movie was amazing in all aspects. it was much better then the first (which was basically just an introduction of what the matrix is and what roles the characters play.) this one goes alot deeper into the actuall philosophy behind everything which is what i really loved about it (since alot of it is a reflection of our own world), but it still also kept you at the edge of your seat with all the non-stop action, which was pretty damn flawless, when it comes to trying to pull off some of the things they did. my eyes burned so bad that night from the lack of blinking.

utterly awesome. reminiscant of when i was 12 and i went to see t-2 with my dad.
yes...i like those movies that lack plot and fill it up with action. i hope part 3 has even more fight scenes where neo fights 900 agent smiths and the car chase scene lasts 90 minutes instead of a measling 14 and i hope neo flys to pluto just for shits and giggless and back in a nanosecond to rescue zion from ultimate destruction. then afterwards, i hope part 3 blairs rage against the machine - freedom at the end just to induce more adrenalin at the ending credits.
matrix 2, you rock!

is anyone that HASN'T seen it yet getting just a little overwhelmed by all the hype?
- bhawk0
Bah Im gona wait for the video like two years after it comes out like i did with the first matirx, this hype is BS.
- DonnieTV0
that's a classic knoxel.
That guy's just spent his hard earned dosh to go and watch a film that cost millions and your telling him he has to go to a website before he can try to make sense of the story.
You'd have thought the film could have covered that.

have you ever read a comic called the invisibles? written by grant morrison? Particularly the first trade paperback - "Say You Want a Revolution?" The first arc of the story?
If you have, then you've seen the first matrix film.
and there lies the problem. there is only so far you can go with lifting ideas and characters from another source before someone calls you on it or you get sued...
so you have to stop with that. and you have to think for yourself. and try and figure out how to push these ideas and characters you have molded from other material to become your own, otherwise you have some serious copyright infringement at hand. and hell, you just don't seem that original anymore...
so what do you do? you loose the science and theory and get on with the dudes gettin' kicked and shit sploding.... which is what seemed to have happened with the Wachowski's.
if you'd like to see what would have happened in the second matrix film had the Wachowski's bought the rights to the invisibles or copyright law didn't exist, then go and pick up the second trade paperback of the invisibles at your local comic store or Barnes & Noble...

people that did not like this film:
what the hell did you expect from this film when you knew a part 3 was going to come out in november? neo dancing with trinity in a field of dandy lions???

Call me a cynic, but I'm going to say (tentatively, because I've yet to see the sequel) that the first movie WAS the story and the later ones will be simply a license to print money.
anyway, have a good weekend all.

donnieTV...
theres alot in life that cant be covered just by simply living.
philosophy gives us meaning or insight. if their was a movie just based on that, no one would probably see it. on their website under the section called "Philosophy Section" (which i can see no one probably even cares about), you can learn about the meaning behind the story and why it was even made in the first place, theres alot of good messages in the movie that i think alot of people will miss out on.
- preston0
I agree DonnieTV.
I've taken classes covering human perception and philosophy and shit like that... I'm not ignorant of the themes that the matrix was based on. But in The Matrix, the philosophy was inherant, and not blatantly discussed to death, it left room to watch the movie over again, and think more critically... as all art should do. I don't have the desire to see Reloaded a second time, like i did after the Matrix... it was all just too obvious, too technical, and too Hollywood. Sorry, but I was seriously irritated and alienated by this movie. In my mind, I don't consider it a continuation of the first movie... i consider it a shitty movie made by the same people.... The Matrix is an island and those assholes should have realized that making a sequel would just make them look like the shitty hacks they are
whoa that was harsh.... but i still think Reloaded sucked ass

thanks for your review preston...
it was well laid out, your thesis was brilliantly put, supporting paragraphs gave extra attention to detail and your conclusion was remarkable.
but i still think your opinion sucked ass.
- swollini0
i can't believe you guys are actually buying neos stupid ass questions...talking like a moron for a bunch of scenes in the movie...i heard the same thing like 15 times from different characters. i like the movie, i'm not a hater, i'm saying that they could have thought it out more...it felt cheezy way to much for me way to many time throughout the movie.
maybe i'll see it again.
- unknown0
the plot was all laid out in the first one. you knew it wasnt gonna end in the second one...so what exactly is the beef?
- unknown0
ha... any movie where you have to go read up on it before you see it should be banned.
if it cant stand on its own or if you can follow it after watching the first..... then the job was not done.
I had to watch it 2 times and listen to every... and I mean every single line to figure it out to a T. I bet 90% of people out there are still confused.

"any movie where you have to go read up on it before you see it should be banned. "
Why? Seems like an interesting way in which to immerse the 'viewers' into a storyline, adds depth to the overal narrative. I mean, this is the 'interactive' era, aint it? Are we that lazy?
"if it cant stand on its own or if you can follow it after watching the first..... then the job was not done."
It's part of a series. Fairly easy to digest really. If you haven't seen the first one...of course you're gonna be confused.
- knoxel0
some will think their opinion is the right one, because it is their own and theres nothing wrong that, in fact, they are right in a sense of what they perceive as being right. there will always be those who get it and those who do not ... thats life, but for those who judge movies only by the content and not the underlying meaning of the content are taking the wrong approach to understanding what it truly has to offer... but then again how could the approach they choose be the wrong one.
well said blue jam, its only obvious this is a world of lazyness and thoughtless action. people looking for an easy way out, satisfied with what is pleasing to the senses. i think its great theres finally a movie out thats more then just a movie.
- swollini0
neo can blow it out his godly ear!
=)
