hello all. i was wondering what software you all are using for sound design. I would of course love to get pro tools, but unfortunately i dont have 10,000 fluid cash on me,
i would imagine that someone here does sound design on a somewhat professional level, so do share.thx.

SoundForge for allaround basic stuff.
and if JazX were here, he would preah the word of Reason. it is supposed to be a good app.but there are tons of apps out there for cheap. FruityLoops, N-Track studio, Acid Pro, Cakewalk, etc etc.

are these apps all multi channel and library driven, or are they pretty basic? i am also wanting one with direct input and recording features.
thx.

i think fruity loops is. it has direct input feature as well. the program is like $149 i think. and then you can get a ton of filters/sound packs for a reasonable amount as well.

all multi channel. FL is library driven. pretty simple app and also gets decently complicated depending on how far you wanna take it. very good for making button sounds and such.
N-Track studio is what i use for straight jacking in and recording. VERY easy to use and very inexpensive. http://www.fasoft.com
soundforge is a bit more expensive, but i think most folks like to use it.
http://www/propellorheads.com are the cats who make Reason. JazX swears by it, so it must be good. i think it is about 300 bucks though.

for sound design, i find that
Soundforge(or the like) and a mic is a very good kit. you dont need protools. just some creativity and a technical knowledge about what you can do with sound. before you know it you will be all over looking for sound sources
get a minidisc or something too if you can to collect audio source when on the streets...
