So I'm going to have to ask. I've just finished the artwork for some large (A2) prints to go on sale in a town near me.
Now I've come to spec the actual print job, I realise that I've no idea what I'm talking about. Is it worth paying for gloss encapsulation? Shall I print on 160gsm opaque or on vinyl? Water or pigment based inks?
currently I'm guessing to go pigment based on vinyl with no encapsulation, but that's totally random. any helpers to explain things to my brainmeats?
thanks in advance

I'm totally clueless on stuff like that, so I usually describe to the printer how I want the paper to feel in my hands, and how I want the print to look.
I've done print stuff for quite some time, and I've never really needed to know all that stuff.

Gloss Encapsulated
Encapsulation is where two pieces of film is applied to both sides of a print, creating an almost rigid effect.
- Used for protecting prints.
- Can be wiped clean.
- Borders of the clear encapsulate can be applied to protect the print further.
- Often used for large displays or even certificates and front covers of presentation booklets.
- The gloss finish would not be advised for exhibitions as it will reflect the lighting and create a glare on the printing making the text difficult to read in certain positions.

I got the prints for my recent show done here:
http://www.colyer.co.uk/dpflarge…
the quality was incredible...
they were mounted on foamex board, the image extended to wrap around the sides on the board and then gloss laminated...
to be honest i couldn't quite believe how good they looked..!

dont get them encapsulated it looks so tacky - whenever I see encapsulated posters I think of people on the street selling those 'hidden 3d picture' things where you had to go cross eyed that were about in the early 90's.
Unless you think your gonna be so happy with them you may need to wipe them clean.
