heres the trick I use that ignores default file associations.
Drag your files either into the application window, or into the app. on the taskbar (i think this works in XP... no dice in 2k tho)
my mind was blown the first time I saw some chumpy prof. do it on his mac

right click, open with..., sets default.

I've got a feeling FLASH MX doesn't support OLE but i'll give it a try again next time, that part of the process comes along.

oh ya text in flash drives me mad.....all kinds alias, anit-alias, pixel, html, dynamic. the amount of html tags flash understands is week 2.

bah! my pet peeve looks like one all on my lonesome... i get no defaults only pain :( ... well i got another one that i'm sure you're all familiar with, when you export html and you tell it to centre the flash movie and it doesn't care and aligns it to the left anyway.

Flashes HTML tag list is horrible. Why can't we get xhtml / stylesheet support, damnit..
Oh and dealing with Flash's XML f-ing blows. Not that many progs / languages deal with xml very well for that matter, which constantly provokes the question, how good is XML when nobody can really use it efficiently? But Macro could have done it better.

resizing a flash stage size and having to move everything else to re-centre it

flash doesn't seem to like imported music... it can't play the music and the images, especially if you do the images in phtoshop.
i found director was able to cope better. probably because it allows for audio channels. does MX have this feature, i havn't checked it, but it should!!

1. I would like to have a grid that is pixel perfect - also one that I can zoom right down to 1px --- not the 10px limit.
2. Also I'd really like a better debugger... and some way of 'mapping' the OO Classes and inheritance... kinda like UML
3. Support for RegExp
4. Fast Script Execution -- MX is much faster than 5 - but still not as fast as it could be.
5. Better support for importing and exporting - the cut'n'paste and drag-n-drop mentioned before - (.AI into .FLA etc...)
thats it... for now :)

I should have 100 items, but here is one for now.
getTimer sucks. In Director you say pause (milliseconds)
That is so much easier.
The html settings from publish are so crude they might as well not be there. I have to go to Dreamweaver everytime anyway.

Corin:
Here's the long way to change file associations:
1. go to windows explorer
2. click on tools/folder options
3. click the file types tab
4. find the file extension you wan to associate
5. click on it
6. in the bottom of the dialog box it will say "opens with" and next to that is a change button, click the change button and browse to the .exe file of the program you want to use to open it.This will change the association permanently. The one "exception" is that some programs change file association upon open. Open RealOne for example, and it changes your file association for mp3 files to RealOne. I don't know of any other examples of this though, so this procedure should fix your problem.

yo. what does the pink mean, 4cy?

The fact that when you "publish" it publishes the HTML in the directory where you saved the .FLA
There is no progressreport, no way of knowing where it went, without opening the directory in the explorer....Oh, about the "default" editor on Windows thing: To set a default click ONCE on the icon of your file (Selecting it, NOT opening), and then hold SHIFT and right-click. Then you get a menu with "Open with..."

peeve - when you have many image movieclips and select them all, zoom in...on zoom out, everything looks distorted...have to recreate the .fla. :(
