I rememeber when I enjoyed going to work. I rememeber food fights in the office. I remember falling asleep on the work toilet after staff pissups. I remember playing pranks on clients, swapping peoples hard drives around during lunch hour, going to meetings half baked.
No its just work work work. What happened to our industry, we used to have fun, but still got the work done. Where and when did we sell our souls, or am i just getting old?

*sigh*
i know what you're saying. maybe the price of souls is too low these days?

i think we, as an industry, are stilll in a slump, but it feels like it's getting better. to me at least.

9 to 5:30 has turned into 7 to 7.
And I hate to sound ungrateful but the common phrase I have been hearing lately:
Well. At least we have job.
Is starting to wear thin.
Yes. I have a job. And the floor around my desk has the majority of the hairs from my head.

we just had to let someone go last month, so i *am* thankful to have my job...
But i'd be more thankful if i also had the raise i was supposed to get in February ("wait til we're out of the red first")

ahhh - so true brad...so true....this time next year the market will be booming - mark my words!

I admire your possitivity jevad and mayo. I hope so, i've taken pay cuts for the past 2 years now, if i go any lower i'll have to train my dog to design.
Im actually on 2/3s the salary i had two years ago. I'm even bringing my own lunch to work.
But ya, i'm happy i have a job. just missing the fun!

fuckin a dolan...that's harsh - I am going to shut the fuck up right now about how boring my corporate design job is....
- mayo0
i just tell myself "at least i'm not still at the bank" when i get down about it.

it really does seem to be getting better. clients are finally preparing to spend money. after the proposals and business plans run through the corporate machine, designers will finally hands on some of the cash.

if it picks up again I'm going back to freelance straight away. Fulltime is good now for security, but the moneys not half as good. i miss working in my boxers
- jevad0
Man - totally - love to afford freelancing again...I work so much better at night....I'm totally not a morning guy...

my real fear is that these "cautionary spending" times will set the precedent from now on.
The abnormal becomes the normal. Bad news.

one of our cheapest clients is actually forking over for a varnish plate. I'm so excited (working on that job right now).

In no time, there will be so many designers that you'll have it as hard as we, journalists, to find a decent job. Design schools everywhere, too many people...

LOL mayo!!! it still amazes me how much people dont understand how much stuff costs tho... one job - they wantted tip-ins! and she was liek $1500?! ill do em myself hahaha

agreed...atmosphere is hugely important for moral and healthy state of mind at work. It's ashame your work envoronment is getting stale.
Start a fire.

I've started eating beans and toast at lunch just to get a stink up... anything to break the monotony.
