so i quit my job (last day may 9th) and am moving to palo alto, ca. i don't have a new job yet and just hate this job search thing. i dread the process.
i was thinking today that i will just buy and sell masses of junk on ebay, work 2-3 hours a day, buy a warehouse and a few mailmen, and retire.
what do you think? would you find that fulfilling? know anyone that has done it?

Dude! I think you should go for it. And I am being serious, why not. Recently I read somewhere, a whole family put themselves for SALE on ebay.
GO FOR IT!

I have a friend doing it. She sells vintage lingere, shit that she finds at garage sales and thrift stores, I guess there is a market for it. She doesn't make much though, just enough for top ramen and baby oil.

There are lots of really good books about the art of ebay - I've heard of people making lots of money and it all comes down to knowing what sells on ebay ie. what's hot. Lots of studying and watching auctions.

Ebay shoppers are from a different planet. Sometimes I think they care more about their rating than what they are actually buying. Get a real job and sell shit on Ebay on the side.

Sounds like a plan!
Vintage Lingerie=Ewww Are they still unwrapped or used? How bout adding vintage y-fronts to the mix.

ya... you can make some good money, but first learn what sells.
And useally its crazy things... aka vintage lingerie etc...do some reserch.. but most likey youll be working about 12 hours a day to do this... not 3

People love vintage sheer and silky things. I'm still trying to find a girl to model this stuff for me. Those girls rock!

one of my friends used to go to auctions and buy crates of motocross gear. he never knew what was inside but he sold most of it on ebay for a nice chunk o change. maybe check your local auction house and purchase some crap and resell it on ebay.
just a suggestion

or do like the blue-hairs and hit up thrift stores

I have a friend that got into buying and selling classic Nike Air Jordans. Evidentally one of those niche money makers! He has a collection of Air Jordans from various years and he has made over $500 selling shoes on ebay just in the past couple of weeks. He's addicted and has me seriously considering selling all of my classic toys, movie posters and comic books.

it's kinda weird, but i've actually made money on ebay selling used computer stuff...
over the past couple of years, my college has their yearly tech sale (used old stuff), of which they sell it all for basically what you have in your pocket. I bought an upgraded powermac 6100 G3 maxed out on ram and hard drive space for $50 with a monitor.. sold it later that week on a newsgroup for $260 or so... also bought a powerbook G3 at the pawn shop for $500 and sold it a week later for $830. Oh, and also bought a maxed out 6500 for $50 with a nice sony 17" monitor.. sold it the next day on ebay for $300. Weird thing to be making money on used computer gear.
I'd say do it on the side, get a job to pay the bills.
Or... get into the online porn biz
:-)

I have the perfect scheme for you....Look on the website http://dustygrooves.com and see what the most expesive records on there are....got to your local used vinyl store and buy the exact same records that you see dustygrooves has...for some reason people pay these outrageous amounts of money for these old records.....perfect example: I bought a record in a used store for 3bucks....I went into dustgrooves and saw the same record for 85bucks....then I checked it out on ebay and someone had bis 300(US FUCKING DOLLARS) on it....people are so stupid. But without them what would we do for food...ooops did I let that out?

well if you live in USA what about Sales Tax? can they get you? the goverment I mean...

for a selling, ebay is pretty much no loose. i mean what is the worst thing that would happen, you don't get your reserve met so hold on to it and auction it agiain eventually someone will want it.
on the other hand, you get people like me, who will get pissed off that someone outbid them and spend way more then you were planning to just so you could win the auction.i have grounded my self from ebay cause it was getting too addicive.

If anyone hasn't seen it yet, check out the digital art section on ebay.
We could all be millionaires ;) That stuff is very funny.
