hey, I bought a microphone for my PC and realized I don't have any audio recording device on my computer, i.e.:
start>prgrms>acss>notThere!)
does anyone know if I have a crappy setup or am I just overlooking something?

first off, what kind of audio production are you planning on doing on your machine? and what version of windows are you running?
if you're planning on doing anything serious... any program windows comes with isnt goign to cut it. if you wanna go barebones get yourself an SM-58 on ebay and soundforge... if you're looking for anything more exhaustive let me know and ill help you pick something out.
that being said being said, im sitting in the digital editing room at the radio station i work at right now... and im drooling, the microphone in front of my face cost $5000 and dont get me started on the dual cinema displays on this mac ;)

Shure mic's are pretty good, you will need to make sure you have your Sound Card installed properly and that all your incoming channels and connections are set right. Software wise, you are going to need at least something like Acid Music Xpress to record into, but I would suggest using Sound Forge by Sonic Foundry at http://www.sonicfoundry.com ;)

or you might want to try one of the Cakewalk programs that allows you to record anything and then turn it into notation, MIDI, etc.
