Check this out. A design studio in Germany just got mentioned on FWA (www.favouritewebsiteawards.com) for their recent site design. Too bad they forgot to mention that they took the whole idea from another designer in Czech Republic: japanautumn.cz.

woh! i just noticed that too!
sad man. sad.
and they won an award for it!!!
it's cool to be inspired by someone and have your work sorta look like their's. but to completely rip it and win an award?
not cool.

I'm not sure that lifting the background and using a vertical navigation constitutes taking "the whole thing", does it? Maybe they're somehow affiliated? Really, I'm asking. I don't know. Has anyone asked FWA?
- OSDAgent0
I didn't ask FWA, but I asked the original designer of japanautumn.cz. I asked him if he had help in the design. He said no, but was pretty shocked about the whole thing. If you look at both of them, they took the whole look and feel of the site without giving any credit to the work - both layout and bg.

hmm, well there is a lot of discussion going on about this site on all the boards. it all seems positive. hate to see that happen.

and

Im usually pretty liberal minded about those sorts of things... but even I have to admit that the resemblance is more than just coincidence.

i almost feel like the rest of the design makes up for the parts that were lifted, though.

Criminal
Cuff him!

i would agree that everything 24-7 did was nice. even if they just changed the background, they could of totally separated all resemblance of where they ripped the site.
i guess they just went one step too far by ripping DGU, but didn't take that one step further to create their own bg tile.

It's not like it's just an 'idea' that's been lifted, though. Somebody elses work has been lifted, including the navigation.
And then they accept all these awards and pawn it off as their own original creation... that's just wrong. If their intention was to be honest they would have given credit where it was due, instead of continually patting themselves on the back.

let them both discuss this.
i don't like bitching.
(my point of view.)

true
- shtuker0
has anyone brought it to 247's attention?
- OSDAgent0
Yeah, DGU did.

taken from 24-7:
"reproduction in whole or in part without permission is welcome."
hehe
- OSDAgent0
I wouldn't call it bitching though. If someone's willing to falsify their work in public. I'm more than happy to call them out. hehe ;-)

i won't cast stones, but i will bring some cokes and popcorn...
anyone wanna bring the hotdogs?

eek. well I quite like the site meself. I don't have a problem with the vertical nav. I think it's fine to be inspired by (but not rrrip) and use something that works well. why not. But the background etc. Oh dear. That's very poor and not good to steal. I agree. If they had've just come up with their own they could've got away with it. Tut tut. They should strip the award away and give it to the original! Much nicer anyway.

"Somebody elses work has been lifted, including the navigation."
Ok... that borders on the ridiculous. Who has the copyright on tabs? There are a million sites that use them. Who has dibs on buttons...
I got dibs on hypertext links...
- Bio0
dude, i SO fucking own hyperlinks.
so you better back the fuck on up.
