for outdoors fun check out barton creek off of mopac highway. its a mile lond walk to a sweet creek where the locals drink and swim and their dogs chill. its a great way to waste an afternoon.
also check 6th street. go to emos, 710 and beerland for some punk rock.
check a movie at the alamo drafthouse. some nights they have comedians comment over crappy movies like karate kid & stuff.
enjoy your stay!

Barton Springs is a must. And it just re-opened. You're in luck. If you feel like bringing/renting a mountain bike, you can ride on the green belt trail as well. A sunset at the Oasis restaurant is not to be missed. It's out on 2222 overlooking Lake Travis. Emo's has good shows from time to time. And try to hang out on South Congress for an afternoon.

I have always wanted to go to Austin. I've heard so many kick ass comments from people who've been there. Young, hip crowd with a laid back atmosphere and good music.
someday. someday.

There's lot's to do here. It really depends on what you're into.
If you like music.. go downtown on 4th, 5th and 6th streets.
The red fez (5th street) has an arabian theme on friday nights. The lucky lounge next door plays trip-hop. There's also Stubbs (thievery corp is playing there this wed), emos, and much more.
The Oasis is great for sunsets and margaritas but very touristy.
There's lots of nature. Lake Travis, Perdenales State Park, Town Lake, Hamilton Pool, Enchanted Rock (about 1 hour west) is incredible, and lot's of mt bike trails.
We'll be tubing down the Guadelupe river that weekend as it is my birthday!
There is also alot of art museums and galleries here. Check out the Austin Museum of Art. or even AMODA at http://www.amoda.org
have fun!
