what do yall think?
they are having tons of problems with it. i work in-house for them and have not touched this site. they outsourced it to sapient. the site is super slow and the style sheet alone is 30k. they even used the background in the style sheet so everytime u scale the browser it has to reload the background and it hangs.

it's a lot stinkin' better than the old one. i had issues every time i would use it. like this one much better. but agree... there's still steps to be made.

didnt they beta test the site before going live??? i thought that was crucial part of web design...

lots of bugs on OSX - IE 5. looks good though.

os 9.2
IE 5The entire site is saturated with the Customer Service button. Its everywhere, like a tiled background. Distracting? Yes, but i now know just how dedicated to customer service they are.

yikes. and I was flipping out because I launched a site with a small pixel shift. Makes me feel like a supahstah.
GO SAPIENT GO!

yeah... they built it with css2 and left all the browsers 5.5 & below out of the loop.
funny, becuase all of the internal sites they are so anal about working with netscape 4.7

It's nice that they're trying to push the envelope and 'encourage' people to upgrade their browsers BUT there are a couple things fundamentally wrong with it:
1) Who's this site for? The flash movie at the beginning doesn't actually say anything about Cingular until a few seconds after it loads.
2) That menu looks like shit on NS7.0 / PC. It's really slow on the rollovers and leaves white space instead of a button for a bit. The other posts show some drop down menu nightmare happening. Nice beta testing.
My spiel...

Ok, so it does say 'Welcome to the new cingular.com'. But my point is that tons of stuff is going on while that comes up.
It's safe to say Cingular spent a load of dough on branding, so why not show us their brand name / logo a little sooner.
I didn't check, but what if I don't have Flash (ignore if this if they use a Flash 4 compliant movie).
And it does seem a little slow.

I like it - so shoot me ;)
Seems like th hosting co. is what' causing such lag.
VERY interesting that they're using PNGs for all their image. Havn't seen that before.

@mountain
I dont see why it would matter if they showed any brand marks right away or after the site is done loading. If you are at the site chances are
1. You typed in cingular.com
2. you were sent through a cingular banner ad
3. A friend sent you to a link to cingular.com
etc..
my point is you will more than likely always know you are at cingular. Reminding you is not as important as if it were on an ad or some medium where a person just happens to fall upon it.Sorry for the long post I just had a disagreement with a client on the prominence of his logo and its importance.
