Diplomacy doesn`t work on all problems.
Kim Il sung and his family has been in power for over 50 years, and u think he will walk away because the UN wants him to?
The only reason Saddam let the weapons inspectors back into Irac was because of the US and Britains military presence in and around the Gulf.
Sometimes war is the only answer. We don`t live in a paradise. Be realistic

I dislike Bush and his administration (save Powell, maybe) and pray for his demise, or specificaly Cheney's, and I don't think that we should be doing what we are. But to start a thread 'Bomb the US' makes we want to find your ass and slap you!
It's early, perhaps my 'diplomatic' approach hasn't arisen, but wake up guys, saying shit like that makes you look like an uneducated moron.

i think the point is that g. w. bush's team doesn't actually realise the need to have the UN or NATO.
it's cheney and co. the same people his dad had on his team when he was fighting iraq.

Diplomacy will never work if these rogue states are pawns in the hands of the superpowers. North Korea exists by grace of China.
As in the case with Iraq: the sanctions didn't work because France and Germany (mostly) and Russie and China had their reasons (oil, geopolitics) to bypass them.
It breaks my heart and my blood boils when sad news comes in about the state NK is in: the repression, the hunger, the isolation
Still, I think war is NOT the answer. War kills people, two wrongs don't make a right.
To state that war sometimes is the only answer I find rather shortsighted.
On a second note: I think the US will never invade NK, just because there's no economic motive. At least, nothing I can think of this moment....

i disagree that sanctions "didn't work" because they were bypassed by other countries.
in terms of crippling the economy, child mortality and disease they certainly had a massive and disasterous impact.
problem is, saddam himself appears to have been relatively unaffected by them.
which i can only hope was the real purpose of the sanctions in the first place.

The world's problems:
1. We live in a hypocritical world. We are all to blame (each govt), the US, numero uno, for sure, but France and others a close second
2. If the UN had the support and foundation that it should, it would/could be a way to keep peace in our world and promote diplomacy both amongst ourselves, and with emergin countries and govt - like learn by watching sort of thing
3. Keep religion out of politics, period. I could care less what religion a leader is, or if he cheats on his wife, but keep them out of my face and away from your policy making.
