Well, I know your joking, but they did not TOO bad of a job taking that country over quickly. I guess the amounts killed on both sides were low, but still don't like the innocents that died. I am happy with the fact that Saddam is gone and it seems that most of the Iraqis I've seen are as well. ;)

As I walk beneath the valley
I shall fear no evil
for thanks to King George and his rainbow cabinet
today murder is legal...God I know that it's wrong
to kill my brother for what he hasn't done
and as the planes blacken the sky
it sounds like heaven is fallingIt sounds like heaven is falling
you promised me a new day a'dawning
I've seen a thousand points of light
like so many points of hatred shame and horror...God I wanna be a man
but I don't wanna die with a rifle in my hand
and as the planes blacken the sky
it sounds like heaven is fallingIt sounds like heaven is falling
you promised me a new day a'dawning
well nothing here looks new to me
but a score of mother's sons
caught 'tween the devil and the deep blue sea...

As the feel-good imagery of "liberated" Iraqis propagates our screens (no more shots of the dead and dying thanks to the bombing of dissenting media), one has got to ask, where are the weapons of mass destruction? If he had them, why didn't he use them?
Already Donald Rumsfeld has tried to suggest that Saddam has escaped to Syria, taking his WMDs with him. Which presumably will be the excuse for the next war.
I challenge all war supporters to keep an eye on what happens in the Middle east after the triumphant embedded reporters have lost interest. Find out for yourself which companies Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell and Bush have stocks in, and what happens to those business interests over the next 30 years.

agree vespa, but do you think that the iraqi people themselves are better or worse off without saddam?
do you think that something needed to be done about his dictatorship?
should have the sanctions which economically crippled the country ever have been imposed?
i am opposed to the war and agree with your points but i am still trying to understand what alternative there was apart from simply ignoring the situation.

seems like you are preaching to the converted here mostly - not so sure most of these people really thought we were doing a good thing over there - but i cetainly know where you are coming from man; this shitstorm has only begun.

I agree that the Iraqis are better off without Saddam. Those, that is, who weren't among the 5000 or so that have been killed or had families and friends killed during the liberation. And more will die - the war is not over yet.
The sanctions never hurt Saddam, they only made him stronger and made ordinary Iraqis so weak that they couldn't overthrow him themselves.
I think that the idea that there was never any alternative except war is false. Let's not forget that the main reason for the coallition invasion was to defend ourselves against weapons of mass destruction. The US said that inspections were not working, but with the eyes of the world trained on the inspectors' work, we certainly weren't on the receiving end of any WMDs were we? So they were successful, even if it wasn't as entertaining and dramatic as all out war is.

Just pointing out that the arab world dosen´t seem to happy with yanks putting flags over statueheads, even Sadams.
They have different wievs on life down there; shall we "liberate" them ´till they se things our way? Or could the world benefit more from human interaction on a non-war level ?

thank to US to show us that humanity means nothing
