hi this is MUCHOS important, recently someone asked me how much i was asking for flash at a job interview...
i said for intros , it should be something around 100$/sec , usualy 15sec intro are normal.
and for menus / content , i said that it depends on the kind of menu , example :
for http://www.reevescommunication.c… I only did the flash navigation menu from a static design that was already done . id say it cost about 400$ , and for http://www.louno.com , i did everything (designed the menu) , and its a little bit more complex too , soo i said around 1000$ ... just for the menu , not the swaping background or anything.soo how do you guys charge for flash , are my price too low , or too high , i hate when someone ask me questions like that on the spot , ... what are the price on the market for flash stuff...
Because the guy , who is my boss , is really a cool guy , and i dont want him to think that im trying to fuck him , or whatever make money on his back...

hehe , jazx , its a small company , but its growing really fast , they know have big names in their client list , and it just keep growing.
And thats why i want to stick with them , as of now , im the official graphic designer , and so each contract they get , as to go to me , unless im busy then it goes to some other freelancer , so its pretty cool . And its cool working with them.
soo i wont charge them up the ass or sumthing , i just want to follow the market and not undercharge , and not overcharge either. just want to be fair.

$100 a second, never heard of that one, wouldn't you make more with a day rate ($350-$650) or a week rate (2k-5k) that would be more like it, timing something to the second is more like a cell animator thing, that's different...

right, plus one second could take someone a lot or a little bit of time, so I dont think it is an honest way to charge.

yeah well , i said on average , for intro ... so basicaly 100$/sec would be like , for a 15sec-30sec intro , of course , if its only fade-in of picture , it would be less , and of course if its , full screen 3d in your face with super sound track and all that bling bling it would be more ...
but like i said on a general basis it should be like 100$/sec .....
but uhm , what u guys are saying is that its way too much or too low or what ? remember its canadian money right.

intro:
import bitmap
motion tween fade in..
stretch end keyframe to frame 15...
go to client..
client says..
'damn that's slow'
so you get at it again..
higher frame rate....
client: that's good speed but now the intro is too short..
make it stretch to 120 frames
landlord calls
damn
payday coming
...add 60 frames
dinner with girl tomorrow
...add 30 frames
need to legalize yer copy of flash
...add 150 frames

The best way to bill is definately by the hour when in doubt. Offer the client X amount of hours at Y rate so you can pay Z bills! Oh, and let them know in advance that they will be billed at an hourly rate of $Y if they request work past the alloted time.
Client doesnt have and suprised glazed look on their face, and they won't pester you to keep changing things if they know it is going to cost them. Or if they do... well money in the bank!

i'd be charging per hour, possibly with a max charge... charging per second of the intro seems like a bizzarre way of doing it.
get an idea of what they want, figure out how long you think it will take you, add a day or two and charge a respectable hourly rate.

1 fps movies is what you want.

I dunno , when i was in school , my teacher always told me that he was chargin X$/hour . Damn it stupid teacher...
soo , well then , whats a good hourly rate ? Beside , i think my boss prefer to charge by contract and not hourly rates , i asked him for my last contract if he wanted to pay me a % of the contract or at an hourly rate , and he said % , thats fine by me , cuz i get 1/3 of the contract only to design , and if i do integration / html whatever more i get more $ ...
soo thats why i gave him a price/sec of flash intro ...
but for the menus i talk about in my first post , 400 and 1000 $ , so these are way over priced in your opinions too ?damn it , i hate this , now he must think im trying to make money on his back , and ive noticed he doesnt talk to me as much as he did before i gave him these price , FAWCK ! I hope im just paranoid.
