which laptop for a designer ?

Whatcha know - it turned into a PCMAC debate... go with whichever platform you have all your software for and are comfortable with.

My girlfriends sister got an IBM thinkpad. Her dad ordered it from hong kong and saved a fotune. It does 1600x1200 and I think it was 1.8ghz, but I might be lying, that was in december so it's probably outa date now but fuck it was fast. And she only uses it for word and excel. I gonna get one when I can afford to, but maybe off ebay.
Then I'll get a 17" powerbook so that I can test cross platform. I wish.

i would get a PC in a heartbeat if fonts, and graphics software was nearly as acciessible as on a mac, PC's are soo damn fast!

Dell Inspiron 8200 here, no complaints after over a year with win2000pro. great 1600 x 1400 res screen.
using the firewire port regularly for digital video and editing with pinnacle studio 8. Great render times.
The graphic card is only a geo2.
Also took out floppy and shoved in extra battery giving 5 hours battery life.
it's heavy, rugged and bulky, but thats no probs.
