Well now that the 5 series will soon be fugly, I no longer have to drop out of design to be a lawyer so I can afford one. I'll buy an Insight or a Civic Hybrid instead, since automotive design is DEAD

gawddamn the new 5 series looks fuckin' sweet. I have had two different 3 series bmw's, a 95 325i and now a 2003 325ci and both cars are excellent. It's probably a preference thing but the setup of the interior and the feel of the car are solid all the way around. Recently I bought a Lexus i300 and the car is definitely a lot of fun to drive, much more squirrely than the bmw. Mainly because you can disengage the stability control (the bmw won't let you turn it off). The lexus is a pretty car, very well designed and a nice shot at the 3 series but is made cheaply.
BMW just make solid cars. You only really know it after driving them for awhile. I test drove a few different Audi's when I was ready to trade in my old 95 and although their design is super sweet, they just can't hang with a BMW.
Mercedes are expensive. Some are nicely designed. I like performance and it just costs too much at Merc to get the car I want with the numbers I like.

that infinity suv looks a bit like Alpha Romeo (if you look from a side and especially from behind). American automotive design was always different. Not really bad or really cool, but different - that's for sure.
X5 beats the newest Porsche Cayenne and Merc ML with no nerves. That's not only my opinion, but also some german car magazine.
Though, I wouldn't buy me a X5. Better 9-5! :)

.. and it does stay in curves like it is on rails. My client owns one and was giving me a lift couple of times. Smooth ride. Quick and stable.
Cayenne, Touareg, Santa Fe, XC90 - are soooo bad. I will never buy a Porsche, even if I have money for a hundred of them. Volvo should re-concept their whole design. The '90s were the best time for Volvo. The new century sucks.
Mitsubishi and Honda are designing some kick-ass cars these days.oh well...
