good, now go see ghost in the shell and really be blown away.

Couldn't agree more. Visuals aside, the dialog is a perfect work in itself. First time I saw it I had a hard time keeping up with some of what was said in it. I would recommend to see it a 2nd or 3rd time to grasp the directors and writers points.

Try 'Wings Of The Honamise' too! It's great.

anyone watch bubblegum crisis 2040 series?
- dopepope0
Hey good call reluct. Thats a lesser known classic. I loved that anime. It wasn't your typical subject matter.
Spirited Away IS as good as everyone says.
Grave of the Fireflies is also quite good though very sad.

I wasn't a very big fan of "wings", but I've only seen it once, and I own the VHS.. So I might as well pop it in one of these days.
Akira, though, I'm all about. Same goes for Ghost in the Shell, Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, and... above all else.. COWBOY frigging BEBOP. Go buy these DVDs, the opening sequence to each episode is worth the price of admission alone.

I caught CowBoyBeBopp last night. I really liked it.
I also caught TriGun and was pretty dissappointed in how silly it was.

so what's the big deal w/ cowboy bebop?
same question for evangelion, if anyone's seen that series... i heard it's pretty good as well.

The first time I saw Wings of... I thought it was boring. Now I love it. It's a patient movie with a lot of rewards. And the artwork is excellent!
What the fuck is up with the redub of Akira??? I hate the new voices!!!
If you liked Akira the movie, go check out the graphic novels. They are gorgeous! They were issued split up in the states. I think they go from #1-36 er something.
The art is incredible. Otomo was almost more of an architect, than an illustrator. Sometimes more of his art was featured in the back of the issues.
(I was an avid collecter when I was little. I think I'm going to pay my mom's attic a visit.)

BeBopp isn't really all that in my opinion. The artwork is really nice though. I haven't been following the story so I can't comment on it. The Ep I caught last night on Adult Swim was dope!

"What the fuck is up with the redub of Akira??? I hate the new voices!!! "
amen! they should have kept the older dialog as an option.
"is that you again Tetsuo?"
"that pea-brain!"

Bebop is all about the characters, and as you watch the episodes, the characters, their pasts and their interrelationships grow and become the subject of the underlying story. plus it's got attitude! and jazz! what other anime has blues and jazz?
Evangelion, on the other hand, is great for different reasons. took me about 3 years to figure out WTF was going on. battle scenes are breathtaking, but it does spend a little too much "introspection" time for my liking. the series is long, though, but if you're up to it, it will be very rewarding.
- bigpink0
Oh ya, and Bebop the movie opens tomorrow (Friday April 4th) in select cities!!!

I almost NEVEr watch dubbed. It ruins everything. I always watch in japanese and read subtitles. The original voice acting and soundeffects/music is always much much better.
- dopepope0
BigO has jazz. Some sax.
- mitsu0
bigpink, did you see the bubblegum crisis 2040 series?
if so, i'm just wondering how you'd compare it to evangelion.
- bigpink0
I disagree, I think the Bebop dub was able to capture most of the subtleties of the original (I'm always switching the voice tracks on the DVD just to check). I think they're getting better as voice acting production at some studios...
