The only thing you did "wrong" to get this response is use the word "trendy" in your request.
Designers have a fear of this word as we are all in denial that we try to be trendy.

If you really want to do it. Abstract 3D is very easy to do with Cinema 4D http://www.cinema4d.com
It has standard filters and stuff to create random shapes and to twist and shear everything.
Everyone can do it.

back in my day we pulled the points by hand.
by the way - lemme know if you find any tutorials that demonstrate ways to animate the ''abstract 3D'' once you have created it. you won't find any.

hey guys..i didn't say i am not able to do those fuckin 3d shapes...take a look at isoprop.net and you will realize i am not looking for that tutorial to learn something i do not know in 3d studiomax..but simply to have an idea of which techniques other designer uses...anyway..thx for the great hel again....
