Anyone know why when I save a loop or record a loop and stop it it always loses what patterns were selected and goes back to the default ones like A1? BTW, I havent figured out the main sequencer yet.

An easier way to do what you're trying to do:
Instead of selecting each different pattern as the song plays, put the patterns in the timeline. To do this:
Select which pattern you want
Go down to the timeline and set the right and left loop bars to where you want that specific pattern to go
go back up to redrum and right click, "copy pattern to track"
change the R and L loop bars to where you want the next pattern to go
go to redrum, change the pattern, right click, "copy pattern to track"
should help you out, if you understand what i'm saying.

I make most of my music with Reason 2.0 and have been selected by Propellerheads as a Beta-tester for 2.5. Your question is a little vague however, the problem you have seem to be a bug in 2.0. The same thing happens to me, you just have to get lucky that it doesn't do that. You, I think are referring to the volume and octave levels and such.

Pilgrim has some good things to say there. That works well and it helps you construct entire songs. I think you were referring to when you stop and export a loop, it whacks out the setting you had before on vitrual synths like Malstrom, etc. You have to play around, but you can do the same thing with Dr. Rex which in reality does a lot more than just import drums, it can bring in an .rex file. For instance you can convert and sound files in ReCycle and then export them for the Dr. Rex to play. That our next project, http://www.rexfiles.com

Here is another helpful hint for you: Open up Dr. Rex Loop Player and find one of the Drum Beat Patches (left-hand corner browse button) that comes with the program and then click TO TRACK next to that and it will place drum beats exactly where you want them between the L and R lines where you can create either loops or full songs. It's really professional at that level and then you can blow shit up and slice and dice and add much effects. :)

I meant in the sequencer area. Reason is about 1,000,000 more times powerful than let's say Acid, which is pure crap.

nice links for free reason files: http://peff.com/frame.html

Thanks for all the info. And JazX, I knew you would have some answers. I do need to learn the main sequencer. Thats cool you can do everything Acid does and more.
What I originally meant was just that everytime I save, record or export it immediatly changes the song that was playing to like back to A1 on all the matrix sequencers and the drum. So I have to find all the patterns I was just using and select them again to make it play the same song I just had going.
I hesitate to record or export because I know that will happen.PS. How is 2.5? Still beta? Worth upgrading to now or should I wait?

so whats new in 2.5 jaz?
- JazX0
first off, congrats on purchasing or cracking, lol, one of the most useful and infinite sound programs in the world. Reason 2.5 is a FREE upgrade, as long as you have 2.0. Therefore, no worries.
I tell you one of the funnest things to do is take random samples in .wav format and import them into ReDrum and sequence them. You will have endless fun and get effective sounds from that thing man! :) I have had that same problem before too, your program is just probably buggy. I think 2.5 is still in production for them. I found many bugs with it and reported it to Propellerheads in Sweden.
Another fun thing to do is import a MIDI file, they generally are layered into tracks and you can fuck with them, so you can learn how the sequencer works. PLus you can copy and paste MIDI notes and choose instruments for those notes. Got me? :)
- JazX0
VOCODER is new, SPIDER is new, SCREAM is new. They are actually just effects modules that you can place under main insruments such as Malstrom and NN-TX and ReDrum. Meaning you can play like two fucking notes with a MIDI keyboard and make that an entire song by copy and pasting and fucking with knobs. LOL ;)

I actually bought mine. :) I bought reason 1 for $279 and got a free upgrade to 2.0. Actually no they just sent me 2.0 instead because it was already out.
Ill post more if I think of anything - to keep this thread alive.
I havent imported any samples yet either. I need to play with that too.
- JazX0
I think I can help you if you like, I play with this thing a lot. contact me at or listen to music I've made with that thing at http://www.pssa-step.com/mp3/5mi…

wow! was kinda annoyed that reason2 didn't have any new effects units.
do you like those ones you mentioned jaz?
they need a better reverb and delay unit for reason3 i say!
only complaint about reason is that the interface is SO damn good that half the time it feels like your using a toy, not a pro-audio program.
- JazX0
quamb, exactly, see the Swedes got it going on. They design something effective and at the same time good looking. Now how do you beat that?
- quamb0
jaz- could you mention to pheads that the sequencer would be far better if you didnt have to 'trigger' samples and hear them from the start. (ie, if you played the song 2mins into a sample, it would start from that 2min)
- JazX0
well the new effects units do all kinds of different things and it really depends on what you need them to do and it depends a lot on the instrument/patch you are using. Actually, you have to really fuck with the delay and reverb units because I get a lot out of them to be honest with you. What you need to do is combine them with other units such as slight distortion for synths.
- JazX0
what do you mean exactly, you can place samples where you want in the sequencer. you know that right?
- JazX0
I think this is what you mean right?
Select which pattern you want
Go down to the timeline and set the right and left loop bars to where you want that specific pattern to go
go back up to redrum and right click, "copy pattern to track"
change the R and L loop bars to where you want the next pattern to go
go to redrum, change the pattern, right click, "copy pattern to track"
- JazX0
this works for placing samples using ReDrum where you want them and you can even change their tempo individually, it fucking ROCKS! Such control baby! ;)
