first off, congrats on purchasing or cracking, lol, one of the most useful and infinite sound programs in the world. Reason 2.5 is a FREE upgrade, as long as you have 2.0. Therefore, no worries.
I tell you one of the funnest things to do is take random samples in .wav format and import them into ReDrum and sequence them. You will have endless fun and get effective sounds from that thing man! :) I have had that same problem before too, your program is just probably buggy. I think 2.5 is still in production for them. I found many bugs with it and reported it to Propellerheads in Sweden.
Another fun thing to do is import a MIDI file, they generally are layered into tracks and you can fuck with them, so you can learn how the sequencer works. PLus you can copy and paste MIDI notes and choose instruments for those notes. Got me? :)
