I can tell you how it sounds, go here: http://www.propellerheads.se/ then to Propellerheads in Frankfurt for that pop-up window it's freaking incredible

Listen guys, the VOCODER it isn't an instrument or anything but an effect module like the COMPRESSOR or REVERB or DELAY is. Got me? Therefore, the craziest ass thing is that you can put VOCODER even on a guitar track or a sampled vocal track from a record using ReDrum. Got me? It rocks!

"The Reason 2.5 update is good news to anyone with an interest in music production in general and heavy-duty effects processing in particular. And if you are a registered Reason 2.0 user, the news is beyond good. Because for you, this update is completely free. That's correct, all you have to do is to wait for an email from Propellerhead Software telling you that the update is available and Reason 2.5 is all yours."

When you talk of the vocoder, saying that is not an instrument, I asume you are talking about the one in reason.
When I think vocoder I think of artists like Laurie Anderso, Steve Wonder and of course Zapp & Roger, The vocoder IS AN INSTRUMENT, yes you can use it as an effect module, but vocoders are to keyboards in a way just like a talk box to a guitar.
I asume for what you are saying that it comes as an effect module, just like orange vocoder or any of those vst plug ins.
Did you tried using it as an instrument?
here is what Im talking about

of course man. I have a Digitech Vocalist Workstation EX that is a vocoder instrument, I meant with Reason racks. And yes it's a free upgrade is you already have Reason 2.0!

SCREAM 4 is also good with that. I don't have a full version. I am in good terms with Propellerheads though and Beta-test for them. :)

It's all good..
so? did you tried using it as an instrument?
- ********0
miklo, I knew what you meant dude, no harm done, that site is actually nice! All those vintage analog synths I would give my right arm for.
- unknown0
So it's still the beta version?
Cause my friend got it a couple of months ago, and he says it was working to slow with lots of latency..
And I was wondering if it's already fixed.. maybe not :(
- ********0
well what I do is SLAVE my Digitech Vocoder to any synth, meaning for instance: Mic -> Digitech -> Synth -> Computer -> Sound Forge. Therefore, whatever you speak into the Mic HAS to be in perfect pitch. It's a classic trick mate! :) Slaving rocks!
- jox0
hey, that propellerheads company is almost where I live!
- unknown0
I meant if the vocoder in reason, did you tried using that one as an instrument?
is still the beta version?
- ********0
I believe it is coming out soon. I will get it for free when it comes out. Actually part of the Loopkit.com project is taking the beats we make using AKAI and NORD and ROLAND and making them into REX Files so they can be used by Dr. Rex Instrument, which actually has some unique features and is POWERFUL AS HELL.

No see you have to use it as an effect on an instrument. That's the way Reason 2.5 is set up. Meaning let's say I tape some notes on a MIDI keyboad and make some loopable track in the sequencer area. I can then choose the instrument I want to play it, such as a guitar and then apply the vocoder effect to the guitar. Wham instant Vocoded Guitar.
