Is yoga a fancy-pants word for stretching?

I've been really considering getting into this lately, I've read too many things recently that describe the benefits of it as things I think I'd do well with.
Do you have to go to a class to get the most out of it, or is it something you can do at home after reading some info about it?
Home might not be the best place, too many potential distractions: cat meowing, firewall alarm going off, highway noise, roommate noise, etc.I need something to make me mentally slow down, something akin to putting an end to pressing Refresh on NT no less than 200 times from 8:30-5:30.
Advice?

well i would be of course, but can't do it all the time. i hate sitting with my legs open 'cause sometimes the smell is quite obscence...it's just a sort of unwashed arse smell, nothing dangerous, but just what i could imagine a proper shepherds arse would smell like! so yeah, yoga when i'm clean and all summer meadow fresh, just for the ladies like! the milkmaids!

you can do yoga at home no prob. might wanna take a class first, tho, to get your technique down a bit. see how it's done right.
you could try meditation...
or buying a shotgun and shooting it at parked cars. great stress reliever.

I've been doing Astanga Yoga for about a 1year and a half now. I love it! I totally feel a difference inside and out. Definately worth going, just chill out and de-stress.

LMAO! @greedo and kingkezza.
you guys keep that up and the endorphin release I'm having will surely be an alternative to stretching myself into a pretzel.

my roommate is into that shit. She does it like 24 hrs. I have told her oneday she is going break legs and neck for doing all that crap.

Thought about doing Tai Chi a few years back and found myself being pumelled in Shorinji Kan Ju Jitsu instead. After much punishment found Aikido a lot more enlightening. It's like Tai Chi but sped up with swords and big sticks. You get to perform lots of mysteriously powerful throws that are hard to figure out. Nice and spiritual outlook too.

Yoga is the perfect way to care for the human body. I always feel awesome afterwards. I have a couple dvds and just do it at home. Even if I'm feeling lazy and tired yoga can renergize me.

Dhalism, while a cool charecter, was just not a fair charecter.
I think I used Guile alot.

One needed great skill and expert timing to use Dhalsim effectively. But once one found their flow, he was a powerhouse.

If you ever see me wearing sweats, walking around with a yoga mat rolled up under my arm, PLEASE kill me.
