yeah... when i was building my print portfolio... i couldn't really find a whole lot of inspiration... so i just ended up doing what I though would look okay...

spend money on a nice black portfolio book, don't do the brushed stainless steel, it will scratches desks, it will cost about 300 buks for a good looking one with high quality plastic sleeves, make it large 15x19, so your print looks better, put your 10-12 best pieces in there only, unless you want to do production (else put all your nice pieces in there), if you have logos, make a mini book 4x5, hand bind it and slip it into the side pocket of you bigger portfolio case... just an fyi...
- subSTANCE0
ouch $300... but i understand the advantages...
and i REALLY like the idea of using a mini book for logos... nice... thanks!

yeah i have one of those brushed metal cases now and the whole other shpeel. i would like to do something a bit more crafty but thanks for input

i know it totally sucks to spend so much money on a book, but i used to show my cheapy portfolio case all the time and i just got a blank stare and a "well it's nice and all but we're not really looking right now", then i buy a new expense case, showed it 3 times and got a full time job... crazy how that shit works but people tend to believe if you look successful you are good at what you do...

Wksp I doont know where to find them on the net but maybe a description will help. I also have the aluminum joint and I love it, its the 12x18 joint and it cost about 135 fuck that scratching shit it looks graet and thats what your are selling looks. I drilled two holes on the left and right side and inserted some screws with a nice thin metal chain to stop the contents forom moving its sweet. my man on the flip has this huge jawn, 16x20 I think plain black with carrying handle that you just flip open...we did the inside the same for flat pieces like stationary(which we put in a folder and only the folder gets taced so the prospective client or employee can take the stationary out), brochures, flyers etc we studiotac-ed them right on to a black maybe 1/4 thick maybe smaller board, 3d pieces sach as beer bottles and childrens shampoo we have nice pictures shot and studiotac those suckers too, for pieces like cd covers we take two pieces of board and foam core in the middle and build a recess in the middle for them with a nice piece satin fabric behind the piece to help it out of the recess. Also he put black masking tape around his edges Im not a fan so I didnt hope that helps.

Oh try pearl art they got good shit.

yeah presentation is everything i will agree with that
it's ok to do something different as long as the execution is completely pro and innovative
- wksp0
TNDAP i have the case allready i got it at kates paperie a couple years ago the reason for the thread was to maybe view some innovative examples online of how other people have handled the design of the portfolio creatively but thanks for the info!
i bet you're from philly?
- TNDAP0
How'd ya kow! I guess it was the "jawn"
- wksp0
yeah it was the jawn
i'm from nyc but i have alot of friends that grew up there and i hear jawn constantly

Check out:
http://www.jennifersterling.com/…I work at an ad agency and have seen quite a number of portfolio's in the "leather case" and let me tell you it is the kiss of death...
Most if not all Graphic Deginers are textural people, obsessed with the feel of things as wellas the craft and care put into pieces. They want to touch it and see it close up. Putting your work behind mylar and it takes the textual sense away.
Further, the black leather case show you put about 30 minutes of thought into your presentation. Think of your portfolioas if you were hired by someone to create it. Would the client be satisfied with the basic leather case?
The site I put above is for a phenomnal designer named Jennifer Sterling, her craft and concept really take her design to the next level.
If you are searching for portfolio cases with a little more umph. try
either way best of luck.

i'll still recco. a standard case above all... metal cases have the humorous reputation of scratching a creative directors desk, so instantly we joke that the person with the metal case isn't gonna get the job, they tend not to open them or open them on the floor. if you want to use a metal case think of shooting all your work on a large format camera, color positives, mounting them inside an oversize black matt cut board-similiar to a real large color slide so they can view it on a light table-that is impressive but also more expensive too - in the long run, it's much cheaper to do the nice black case, the Elite is one i have...

best of luck with your interview, may the force be with you...

true, Dustblower may be correct, if you are applying for a "Design" job at a Design shop (Attick, Sterling, Pentagram) make your case - if you are applying for an "Art Director/Design" position at a mid/major Advertising agency (Y&R, JWT, Arnold) go with a black case, there is a difference in perception...

it's has merit to keep in mind the place in which you are applying for the job. which brings up the whole doing your research on the place you are applying to thing.kudos robotron3k.
