on technical wise,
PC works fine for you, if your work is mainly web-oriented.
If you work in print or broadcast, I suggest you go for a Mac.

I am actually hugely dissappointed with my failure to afford a mac, and have promised to make it up to myself by buying a powerbook next time I've got some spare quids.

pull out a dell on the train and people think geek, pull out a powerbook on the train and bitches are dripping all over you, they literally cant get their panties down quick enough - no shit.
And if you're on the plane you can get into some serious midget type shit. If thats your bag.

Please Mac people don't be so dumb...
I have a G4 at home that never gets used... NO wait I take that back I use it as a foot rest.
And my G3 at work is only used for exporting flash documents, due to the fonts.
But my dual 2GHZ Xeon will rock any G4 out of the water.....
BRING IT! Trust me I know the diff, I have an iPOD, and been a MAC user for many, many MOONS, its nothing against APPLE.
I prefer a PC.

Well hopefully the new processor IBM 970 64bit Apple are getting this year will change all that and give us some speed for are money at long last.
Keep a look out for this one because if apple do go this way it going too be very GOOD for us mac fans out there.
AS for getting a new mac now I would not bother. The G4 CPU is old and crap compared to what the PC people have.

Question:
Why are macs so expensive?Answer:
They spend too much money on product design.I'll leave the Mac vs. PC stuff alone.

I am a PC guy because of my profession (architecture) and because of the outrageous pricing of the Macs. I'd love one of those 17" notebooks, but I could get a excellent PC desktop AND laptop for the price.
Apple has decided to use Intel chips, in case people didn't know. The Itaniums. Should be interesting.
Oh, I've got a PC from 8 years ago that is running fine, never a problem (a Micron). Firms don't upgrade because they can't afford it, which brings us right back to the beginning of this thread.

a few times I heard some mac guys bagging on intel, guess that will stop.

Software controls the hardware market.
Macs will only ever penetrate so much with so many businesses using PCs for their production line - from editors, to IT support, to administration to Managers, etc.
It's simple math... if 2% of the world uses Macs, of course they're going to cost more than PCs that have thousands of hardware manufacturers creating parts.

I hate to enter this tired old debate, but since it's a new twist, I'll throw in my ten cents as an owner of both a PC and a Mac.
Mick, WRT the software nonsense. You are clearly misinformed. Mac's software compatiability is one of the main myths regarding Macs. Currently Apple supports almost every major software application, plus, an eager Mac user can install and run Windows onto his Mac.
And regarding price, Mac tends to actually be cheaper in the long run when you consider longevity, ness. upgrades and overall virus maintainance.

MacAddict also did a piece on this, with a pretty detailed chart and all of that a while back. Pretty interesting.
Not that it matters really.

lightdude... I never said Mac software wasn't capable of anything... I merely said that 98% of the world is using PC software. I don't care which is better or even want to debate it, I'm merely saying that with so many people CURRENTLY USING pc software, it is hard for Macs to lower their price because there are less people buying them.

i have a better one. ready?
Because they are better than PC's. Plain and simple.
- mrdobolina0
what charge is their for virus maintenance?
- mrdobolina0
you know why they are more expensive? pretentious people will pay the price for the style aspect of a mac versus a pc. people who are trying to define themselves by the products they buy. This is not to say that all mac users are this way, but you know who you are...

Why is Gucci more expensive than Hanes?
