So i havent done this in a few years, and I had all the supplies at school, so I dont know what is the best, so any info that you can give me is appreciated. In school we did all paper prints. Im planning on printing t-shirts. Figuring out startup costs/equipment/methods

-What mesh count is good for fabric printing?

-What type of emulsion do you need?

-How does one make a light table, can a normal light table be used, or do you have to make some sort of apparatus?

-Whats the best way to get the emulsion on the screen?

-Do you need to heat the shirt after the print dries? If so, whats the best way?

    -What inks are good?

-Whats the best way to register the colors without having the screen on clamps?

-What cleaners work the best to get the emulsion out?

Also, any sites that you can link me to would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :-D

i recommend using 1300hv direct type photo emulsion (made by murakami screens)

i just expose it in ambient sunlight for about 17 mins in 'normal' weather.. works everytime.. but that's in sunny singapore..

diluting the foto emulsion with a very slight bit of water makes a whole load of difference to 'spreadability'.. experiment with this and it'll be easier than spreading butter on toast. ok not quite

about inks for fabric, i need to find out more about this myself..
anyone know what inks to use for vinyl stickers???

here's a trick for screening tees.. put more than enough ink (always) then swipe hard and fast once only .. the angle of the 'squeegee' is important. get it pretty flat on the screen as you run across it..

i prolly haven't answered everything but i'm tired and i want to go to bed... more laters...

yo man, I feel your pain, and been getting proper info and supplies from Standard Screen printing in NY on Varrick st. They are the ONLY guys to go to in this town for silksceen info and gear!

but on your info part, please spare yourself the many headachs and invest 40 bucks into buying: "how to print T-shirts" isbn#0-9639474-1-9

    best, and good luck man!!

i know how to print on paper, so i dont think it will be a huuuuge transition to fabric, other than a diferent stiffness of squeegee, and learning how to pull the ink over a different material.

is standard screenprinting a good place? i might have to check that out next weekend. are their prices fair?

thanks everyone else for the info. one thing i need to know >> how to get the emulsion onto the screen. we had this metal dohickey that held the emulsion and made it easy to get an even coat.

also, the inks need to be cured right? (again im not familiar with this since i only did paper prints) is there a cheap alternative to making a heater for that?

    thanks again :)
