I....well........guess I´m the debating type; u should know by now. Actually I´m not really aware of where the line between the two goes, only that when people think I´m debating, they tell me, never the other way around. But to me it´s just talking issues over.
Inlighten me vespa; what IS the difference!??

I'm not professing to be an expert on the subject but I have been thinking about it recently.
I would say debate is war with words, where the object is to defeat your opponent, either by discrediting or disproving or outmanouvering. Often debators show the academic legacy of crushing their opponents with the weight of their learning.
Conversation to me is much more interesting and is about trying to find common ground in order to understand each other.

..........sounds disturbingly very much like my ki-aikido teacher there, vespa. Good points though, I´ll bring them along. But still; "understanding eachother". When one is in a relaxed situation, one can do that. But bosses, angry wifes, mad customers, witch don´t wanna "unaderstand" What to do ?

I think conversation is still in it's infancy. Up until now humans have been so fearful of each other that it was easier to kill each other (hence debate and war, two sides of the same philosphical coin) than to understand each other.
But if every meeting with another person is an opportunity for both sides to learn then the whole premise is turned on its head. If the object of the game is no longer just to "win", maybe more can be gained by both sides.

Domo, vespa(drive carefully) and here´s my masters way to say it:
"MUSHIN:
Literally "no mind". A state of cognitive awareness characterized by the absence of discursive thought. A state of mind in which the mind acts/reacts without hypostatization of concepts. MUSHIN is often erroneously taken to be a state of mere spontaneity. Although spontaneity is a feature of MUSHIN, it is not straightforwardly identical with it. It might be said that when in a state of MUSHIN, one is free to use concepts and distinctions without being used by them. "

Interesting. Would you have to train yourself via discursive thought before you could reach the state of Mushin? i.e. you would have to know all the variations of possible "replies" to any given situation so well that your answer comes with the speed of instinct?
How long have you been training ki-aikido?

3-4 years now; it´s freaking great. Well, as I see it the beauty of it is that reaction becomes physical, not mental.
We have a "mantra": the mind moves the body. One should not think too much, just act. And action may very well be nothing, actually ki.aikido is seen upon, be other marshall arts, as "pasifistic", but it´s not. there´s just no agression, only moving of the mind. Do one get the knack of it, you can moves your partnets mind with your mind. hench japanese films, where they allready know who´s gonna live or die in some swordfight.
So when I throw my partner, it´s not a difeat for him or her, ´cause they´ll when to move with my mind and perform a fall. And belive me, taking falls can be a techniqe in it self.

Cool. I play capoeira, and what you've just said applies in the roda (that's the name of a match) too.
I find that it's a case of programming your body by training so hard that you can react with minimal effort when you are actually in combat. so you do all your thinking before the game.
I see a capoeira game as a conversation too, and as you say moving your partners' mind, as well as allowing yourself to be moved.
My teacher says "If you play capoeira, you will fall. If you don't want to fall, don't play capoeira." This is true of life too I think!

sorry guys that was rude. why the delay phubar?
- unknown0
yup, we agre on it all, but the training part, vespa. I trained swiming for 15 years and eventuallygot sick of the many hours training the body, switched to aikido, where everybody can join; fat or anorectic. Our BIG sensei says that he never does any phsical training, ´cause it´s not about good physics. It´s about knowing how your body moves and to be frank; I like that part. On top I am able to stay healthy, just be sitting, putting my mind to my snotty nose or sour back, do a few kiatsthu pressures and woop; not a cold or worse for 3 years.
