do these guys give everyone who applies an award? seriously, every site i go to i see this award posted. i mean sites that are just plain ugly and not even functional are getting this award.
for the people reading this who received the award, i dont mean to talk down about it, i have received it myself, but it just seems like they are giving this to anyone that applies for it!
anyone hearing me on this?

I feel you man. What is even more messed up is that I didn't even apply for it. I just got an email one day that said I had won. Then they wanted me to pay $20 for a certificate.
I think that they hand the award to everyone and hope to make money by selling certificates.

a while back someone posted saying he won one for a blank page, so its most likely some sort of a money making scheme.

well, i applied for it a few months ago not knowing anything about it. then i got an email saying my site was awarded the 2002-2003 golden web award! YIPPIE! my design won an award! but then i read the rest of the email......
they want me to buy a fuckin certificate, and some hats, perhaps a few t-shirts for my co-workers and all other kinds of money making shiat!
anyways, just wanted to see if any other designers took this award seriously.

if you have not received one, all you need to do is submit your site, or any site for that matter that you want an award for!

I read a forum thread at Flashkit about this from someone who said he worked for the firm who wuns Golden Web Awards and this is what he said.....
...nail on the head. i used to work for the company, citracom. now called wellington web works . [ www.wellingtonwebworks.com ]
. yeah. hes exactly right, its just a server sitting in the back of a room that randomly picks site out of a pool. the golden web awards are free. the diamond and platinum awards are the same thing, but for paying memebers only, so its like PRESTIGE! than there are stupid knock offs just to make more money like junior golden web awards and what not. anway, i "won" a platinum web award...because i used to work there. anyway, sorry to burst your bubble ace. but the company is a piece and is run my a dishonest man who needs to go to jail...

I used to work with someone at my old job... they were a php geek, and I was a designer (still am)... Anyways when I got laid off and set up a new business... I let him see the site... he then tried to rip it off totally unsucessfully, and then bragged to me that he had won a 'Golden Award' or whatever it's called....
...his site is http://www.shootingfilms.com?pit…...
mine is
http://www.engagestudio.com?nt=l…... He seemed to be really chuffed that he had ripped me off! Pity the fool!

no bubble bursted here, i figured it to be a crock of sht after reading the one sentence with "congratulations on your award" and then the next 4 pages of order forms!
it just seems that alot of people post this award on their sites like it was a great accomplishment and i wonder how many people actually take it seriously? thanks for everyone's feedback. nice to know im not alone.

Engage,
Mill site, did he really do it? I mean he is showing it in his portfolio, so that must mean that he was involved with it, although he is not stating what part of the project. As I understand he is not really a designer, right? So what's the deal? Btw, his usability sucks. I agree with you, a poor attempt to copy your site.

Boz.. basically he did the php for it... I styled the look, page layout, and created the flash navigation... so he had 'some' input, but not a great deal.
