today i grudgingly gave over my access card and office keys to the building management, while my now former boss nodded in the background with a glazed ovr look in his eye.
after a weekend of alcohol poisoning and maybe a couple day trip to the mountains to hit the slopes, i'm gonna have to figure out what to do with my life...
anyone got some advice? 5 years work experience but no actual degree in design/programming. i'd like to go back to school, but 2-4 years of school at 27 seems a bit rough...
just wanted to cry and moan a little

aww neeko. :(
if it makes you feel better.. im not finished with school either and im doing fine without a degree. my experience and portfolio speak for itself so i dont really have problems finding a job. im sure yours is a similar situation. dont give up. im sure if you look for a second you'll find another job as long as you dont live in montana or something.

neeko i wish you the best of luck. nothing wrong can happen to a man who took the time to write me an email about my stupid cow.
- lifeinsodium0
did i say stupid cow? i meant precious cow. that's right.
- BonSeff0
did you get canned or layed off?
i got layed off twice in 01,
im very familiar with the walk of shame.
sack-up my man, you are your only hope. it will work out

you'll find something neeko. you've got experience and passion. just take care of yourself, okay? good luck.

everyone has their ups and horrendously-downs
neeko, u'll do fine.
- monkeyme0
neeko...never fear. You'll be fine. 5 years in this biz is alot. Like Shellie says, if you have a good portfolio and continue to grow as a designer, programmer, ain't no need to worry yur lil head.
- Sapphire0
neeko.. don't do anything to hurt yourself now alrgiht? we're your friends here.
- BonSeff0
oh and by the way neeko, not having a degree isnt a mark against you if you rock the casbah. all a degree got me was a stout student loan payment each and every month, my advise:
hit your local scene hard (after the booze and slopes, god i envy you) jobs are out there. you're experience is valuable, but most of all you are valuable. a career pays bills but there is more to your happiness than pushing pixels around for a suit im guessing.
CHEER UP FUCKHEAD!!!

"CHEER UP FUCKHEAD!!! "

HA - did i mention one of my layoffs in 01 was poor performance as a camp counselor
:P

neeko you'll be ok. i dunno if you got fired or laid off.
i gotten fired twice. somethin' about not being a team player and also being late often.
whatever. it really affected me back then, but just chuck it to experience. times are tough right now, but i'm sure you'll find something. may take a little time and dedication. or you can freelance or do your own gig. this could be the time you've been waiting for.
best o'luck...:)

hey everyone... thanks for the support. no need to worry... not planning anything stupid. the only victim this weekend will be my liver.
the company i worked for went tits up and shut down. so i assume that counts as being laid off.
going back to school while im still paying off my first student loan would be a bit rough, but id definitely like to get some formal training if i do have trouble finding a job. i'll most likely just try to keep my doors open, and look at all the options.
didnt mean for the message to sound desperate, just the emotion of the day i guess... bit nervous and bummed out, down and out financially (doesnt help that i just went out and filled the fridge with beer), but far, far from doing anything really detrimental to my long term health.
thanks again gang... good to know theres someone to offer you some kidn words or advice when youre in the gutter.

don't worry, i was in the same situation a few months ago, went freelance and no regrets. the money is better, more freedom, etc.

Happen to me in July last year... the week before I was due to go on holiday for a fortnight... when I got back my desk had been cleared with my stuff in a corner... and I got situated next to the toilets... when I had to work two months notice.... But, used that time wisely and got my new companys site underway... so the transition was easy when I then joined Engage. Haven't looked back... even had a day off yesterday!
