heuu.. that I never understood on macs. You have to switch to os9 to use older software? Xp can run any software you install on it.. even if its 10 year old.

Mac for video or print work. PC for everything else.

a computer is a tool. one or another isnt going to make you better at design or programming or whatever. its all up to you. stop griping that pcs cant do this or macs cant do that. ithe computer can only do what you make it do.

PC sucks!
I only use PC to check the works. But I have to admite that XP its much better than the last versions!!
I could tell you 1000 reasons why I prefer Mac, but I use it because of the reasons I can't remember!

Well I have to say that it was fun reading what people think about PCs and Macs and I would like to raise one point.
As a creative professional, like many other here, I used both Macs and PCs. Based upon my experience I can say only one thing. Who cares if Macs do a bit better job with video. If I can buy a blazing fast PC for a third of a Mac price which does almost everything the same or even better (with exception for video) why in the world would I buy a Mac. If I need to do only video I will buy one PC with extra RAM and video editing software and keep it very clean and one for web development, print and other stuff. They would still cost less then one nicely equipped G4. That's what I call productivity and cost-effectiveness.

no... os 9 opens up on osx . You don't have to switch, and XP will not run some software, we have a couple of programs here at work we were forced to buy upgrades for simply because things didn't work correctly on XP for the older versions... popular games like the SIMS do not work on XP correctly either (just ask my wife, she was pissed). With the way Macs do it, it is like starting up a second OS while your OSX is running.

I love apple, they are so desperate to be innovative that they always come up with new stuff first. Then i can sit back and wait for some non-proprietry pc based company to fix all the mistakes they make and release the same thing for half the price. Oh and i think macs are the ugliest things i've ever seen... in my mind they are the industrial design equivalent of beveeled buttons with drop shadows and chrome filters.

what i mean by very stable is that i don't reboot at all. my apps ran fine when i upgraded, all i needed was a new driver for my sound card. but if you have problems running older programs, you could try right clicking on the app and choose an OS compatibility mode...which is probably a lot faster then opening up a new OS.

as far as I know ligatures is not possible on PCs.
and I don't know how 'print preview' works on PCs, but I can't live without it on my Mac.
so PCs are useless when it comes to print design... right?

Mac ALL THE WAY!!!
I use pc's to, but because I have to..
Mac screens has more resolution than pc's, soft runs separate from each other, making them hard to crash, (they do, not so often) slow start up? more memory and its over, why you are using explorer if you are on osx, get safari, way better!!
did I mention that there is no virus for macs? if you work in graphics, or audio.. mac, pc? games, internet and accounts..
peace

well... i could sit here and argue all day, about what advantages and disadvantages are between the two. people are obviously in love with their pc, or mac, or both. to be honest, the line is starting to blur between the two... funny thing though, we have to reboot our xp machines at least once a week here at work... but that may be more of a maintenance thing, funny, they never reboot our macs... guess it all goes back to the reputation windows has built for itself over the years

I agree with creon, that is my point of view, talking about what is better as a tool, not what will make your work look better
