this topic has probably been tackled before 10 times or more.
I haven't 'swtiched' but I've recently been designing on a MAC or almost every site I've worked on last year.... and I have to say its not that bad. I actually like it a little better. But I also love my PC and I'll never stop using it. I guess i kinda go backa nd fourth.
Let me get to the point here... how many of you design on MACs? I've found lately other designers i've talked to are using MACs more often.

yeah this thread has been on here like once a day ... but ill participate this time. I prefer PC but can work both. For me there is absolultley nothing a PC can't do a mac can... but macs are sure pretty looking.

see, thats the thing.. so far i haven't found anything on my pc that i cant do on my mac. if anything i can do more. Making screen savers and autorun CDs and such, i can do it all on my mac and make like PC and MAC projector files and such, but i cant do that the other way around.

i work on both too, and i would have to say...the big one button mouse for the mac really sucks.
other than that i would say my mac performs better than my pc, and i really like the fact that all mac programs run seperate from eachother. that way if one program crashes you don't have to do a restart like you do on a pc.

i use both and like both, but not being able to open some files from a mac on a pc drives me crazy or the filenames being messed up. grr
other than that both are capable of the same these days.

you can get a different two button mouse for the mac.
i have always used macs. i've used pcs too and don't like them.

*smashes head against really big Radius Mac&PC compatible monitor screen*

I remember when Radius tried to make mac clones.
That was a gas...

lvl.. the one button mouse doesnt bother me much.. i use a tablet on PC and MAC.
my only mac complaint is it takes seriously a half an hour to start it up.

*sigh*

yeah, super slow startup. oh and also you can't change the memory settings for ie (at least if you are using osx) and that really sucks. if anybody saw the latest colors magazine flash movie that was posted here you probably know what i mean. it wouldn't even play on my mac due to lack of memory.
oh wait, one more thing. my ie 5.2 crashes at least 10 times a day on my mac.

i dont understand why you would have to reboot after a program crash on a pc.
i was using a new G4 at working running OSX. the interface was running really slow so, menus were lagging when i clicked for them. I asked what i could do to speed it up so the menus and windows would react when i asked them to, everyone said get more ram. it had 874 megs.....
i want to like macs, ive tried twice to use them at work and i couldnt take it.

well, bottom line is that the pc i am using is a p3 500, and hasn't been reformatted since i got it. it always crashes my computer when a program crashes...or not so much crashes...just freezes. i think i have every virus known to man on that thing. Seriously it worked fine before, but now it stalls and pauses even when i move my mouse. you would have to see it to believe it. but i use my roomates pc a lot and that thing flies.

I'm mostly using a PC but I have this iBook too. It has OS 9.2 so I don't know anything about how OSX works but these little things about mac annoy me. For example:
If you want to select something in a long list (e.g. what country you're from), why can't you just type the first letter in the word to scroll the list to that word? You can on windows.
Why cant you select button (for example in a dialog window) with the tab key? Is there some other way to do it?
In a menu on a pc (for example the start menu) you can right-click on a higher level in the menu and get the usual popup menu; is there a way to do this on a mac?
Well, I don't know if you understood that lst one but overall the pc is more innituniutiveive than the mac, and I like doing stuff with the keyboard rather than the mouse and I have found that the mac hardly ever supports this.
What did I miss?

my impression has always been, and still is, that the mac is the overwhelming choice for print design, in terms of compatibility with service bureaus, printers and publications. But maybe I'm living in the past.

lnu... I think every one of those features is on the Mac, or something similar... but it uses totally different keys... you need to read the Help.
The few cool things on Windows that are missing can usually be added on using 3rd party programs... a good example of add-ons for OSX: http://www.unsanity.com
