i know 1 really cool thing a pc can do that a mac cant, and i really miss it, cause im on a mac now
- k0na_an0k0
ya know.... my preferance is a mac but as a good well rounded designer (check my site to see for yourself) i feel as though i need to work on both. i.e. for cross platform issues, clients who only have one type of system, things like that. i love itunes for mac, but i love the availability to burn a cd and still work on a pc.
i'm leaning towards macs though for a number of reasons including coolness factor.

you can burn a cd on a mac and still work on other things is osx...but i remember when you couldn't, and that did suck

isn't mac sorta gay?

| :) |No but seriously, how do you do that list-scrolling thingy on a mac? On a PC it's so simple, so logical.
- ribit0
I remember Navigator 1.0 and thinking 40MB of RAM was way cool...

list scrolling? tab to the list... type letter... same as Windows isn't it?

basically a couple things to consider here:
macs and pc's now are pretty much able to do the same tasks as each other. it almost comes down to personal preference and whether you'd like the interface of the machine.... if it makes you work more efficiently, go for it then.
Print: more print shops tend to want files on a mac formatted zip disk, mac fonts if it's not a PDF, etc... so i guess the gripe there is from the print shops.
Web: pretty equally frustrating because
A: if you're designing on a mac you work with the limitations of the browsers on that platform, while on a pc you're always working to fix the limitations created by mac browsers;-)
B: for development work, it's nice to have both so you can test all your stuff on either Apache (OS X) with php, or IIS with asp (Win2k/XP). Both are benefits to their respective platforms.Bottom line, go with what you like. The computer isn't going to make your work any better, although it might make you more productive, thus able to create work more effectively.

a computer is a tool. one or another isnt going to make you better at design or programming or whatever. its all up to you. stop griping that pcs cant do this or macs cant do that. ithe computer can only do what you make it do.

as far as I know ligatures is not possible on PCs.
and I don't know how 'print preview' works on PCs, but I can't live without it on my Mac.
so PCs are useless when it comes to print design... right?

Mac ALL THE WAY!!!
I use pc's to, but because I have to..
Mac screens has more resolution than pc's, soft runs separate from each other, making them hard to crash, (they do, not so often) slow start up? more memory and its over, why you are using explorer if you are on osx, get safari, way better!!
did I mention that there is no virus for macs? if you work in graphics, or audio.. mac, pc? games, internet and accounts..
peace

you cant do a print preview on a pc?
- unknown0
I agree with creon, that is my point of view, talking about what is better as a tool, not what will make your work look better
- silver0
here is an neutral site comparing different OS for better choosing the righ 'tool'.

isn't this topic illegal on NT anyway?

i used to do video on a pc that had the exact same stats as my powerbook g4.... the g4 is way way way way way way better for video than it's pc counterparts. at my house there is my mac, and two pcs... i test everything on all three, but for some reason, everything always looks better on the mac. oh yeah.. firewire is standard on macs.. you gotta go buy a card and install it on a pc, you have to spend a bunch of loot to get a pc up to what mac considers standard in the video department.

as much as i hate this topic, i have to agree with the prev post to a degree. macs are better at certain things. and pcs at others.
just as 3d animators use SGIs, they have only a tiny fraction of marketshare. They're still the best for 3d and rendering.
in my exp, it seems the mac is better for video. plain and simple. who cares about the marketshare.
