My latest client wants her logo to look like it was stamped into the background of the page. What's a good way to do this?
Oh - by stamped I mean embossed, like a notary stamp.

get a rubber stamp of her logo made... try a stationery supplier

Not a rubber stamp. Like a letter press - where it embosses the logo into the paper. No ink involved.

on screen, or real paper?
photoshop filter emboss

Here's the deal. She wants a really organic, analogue-y type of site. The background of the page is actually scanned, tiled, wrinkled paper. She wants her logo to look like it was embossed into the background of the page.
The photoshop emboss filter doesn't really cut it. Not so realistic

hmm. right.
maybe what you could do is emboss the logo in photoshop. print it on the paper that is being used for the background, and then crumple it up.
ehh, just a thought.
otherwise, i think for a real effect, you will probably have to actually get a metal stamp. sorry i'm not much help

any good at 3D, or know anyone that is?
I think that would be the solution by the sounds of it... I can't see it being THAT hard or time consuming

dont bother with emboss photoshop, it looks terrible.
just go get a 'notary style' stamp made. then stamp something and scan it. it will look the best.

you could do it in a 3D modeling program, maybe Maya or Lightwave or C4D.

"She wants a really organic, analogue-y type of site. "
that cries for the real metal stamp solution!
i could do something like that in C4D but i swear it will not look much better than embossing around in PS.
sorry

Start with a 12'x12' photo print of some paper. Hire a crew of air brushers, which shouldn't be hard to find with the current economy, and have them airbrush the embossed logo.
Take the poster and have a heard of elephant's trample it, for the wrinkled effect.
Then take a photo, reduce it to 12"x12" and have that scanned using a high quality drum scanner.
That should do it.

There's HEAPS of control in the Emboss tool options in Photoshop!... you can do practically anything you want... go explore all the settings in the pallettes...

BTW... Thats Layer effects> Emboss n stuff, not a filter.
