internet on start up

hi all - probably a dumb arse question but does anyone know how I would get my mac (10.2.4) to automatically connect to the net on startup? Instead of doing it manually through internet connect? I've got a usb modem.

Your machine probably already is connected to the internet on start up. What you need to do is launch a browser on start up. Use this:

thanks J - I agree but for some reason I do still need to manually connect. So launching a browser wouldn't work. Am I doing something wrong here? How come I've gotta connect everytime?

You need to go to 'Network' > 'PPP' tab,> Options...
Check 'Connect when needed'.
Then anytime you run a program that wants to connect to the internet, Internet Connect will initiate a connection.

btw.. I'm assuming this is dial up 56k, not an ADSL modem...

didn't spot yer last post - its a usb adsl modem. It should just be connected all the time with out having to go to internet connect?

no...thats whats so crappy about BT and most UK ISP's using USB modems for ADSL...they use PPP which is meant for dial up connections.
'Always on' connections like ADSL should really use ethernet.
For £140 you can go get a combo ADSL modem/ethernet router/wireless basestation, and throw the USB modem... then you'll have a much more robust connection, always on, and Airport (is it a desktop or laptop?)...

ahh... I thought I was missing out on something! yeah its a BT openworld modem. I originally had alot of trouble with it (drivers etc not working in X) I'm not that impressed with it - bit of a crappy thing really (doesn't always connect). I did think of getting an ethernet modem instead but can't afford it. Well that explains a few things for me! Cheers for yer help!
