This morning I got a disturbing phone call from my mom.
She let me know that my brother is shipping out on thursday for the war.
WTF?
I didn't know what to say and I still don't know how to feel about it. The other day I was talking shit on the american gov because of the war. Now, I don't know how to feel. My brother, isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and is actualy willing to fight to defend this country.
I am against the war, but now, I want the US to win if anything does happen and for my brother to just get home, safe.
WTF? I am at work and feel that my obligation is at my moms house. What should I do? I have an obligation to stay here at work and get shit done. Make sure things are good with me and my wife, but now I don't know if my brother will return or not.
Is anyone else in this situation? What advise do you have for me if any? How many of you know people who are going to the war or have left for the war?

my bro will probably be shipping out aswell... but likely to afganistan for peacekeeping. The Canada gov't seems to be sending most of our forces there.
I'm woried, but not as worried as i would be if i knew he was going to iraq.

damn. im really sorry to hear that man. i really hope that everything turns out alright and your brother comes back safe.
lets just hope that it is in preparation for a war that never starts.
i still have a small shred of hope that we wont start a war. but not much.
keep your fingers crossed and i'll do the same.

bio... thanks.. I will do so.
I still have a small shred of hope that bush has a bit of smarts, but not much...

my best friend just got back from afganistan.
i didnt hear from him for most of a year. he is still the same silly guy, but i know he had to do some pretty fucked up things. he is different somehow.
whatever happened, it bothered him deeply and he is getting out of the marine corp and into teaching martial arts. he is a hardcore guy, but he said bad shit happened and he doesn't want to see anything like it again.

I dont have anything personal with people that went to war, or have realtives there, but I do feel sorry for them, going out there to fight a war that its not ours, this war its politics and they should be there, not innocent people, if everyones understood that, there will be no more war.

Sorry to hear that your brother is being shipped off. The people who will be fighting this war are our children, brothers, sisters, etc. not the politicians waging it.
If Dubya and gang were personally going over to lay their lives on the line, I'd be all for it.

he'll be fine

I feel for you but I don't necessarily feel for any our paid military. This is the reality of a paid military. you get paid $3600 a month (tax free) to perform operations in the service of our country. They are performing services that our taxes are paying them to do. (although we dopn't ever seem to be able to vote on what services are engaged) I would have a different sentiment if this was a draft but that doesn't exhist anymore and won't exhist until our borders are threatened.
the reality is that your bro probaly won't die. what's more likely is that more american civilians will die from terrorism because of your bro's actions abroad (not that he has any say in the matter)
think of our military as a paid police force that patrols the world for the interests of the rich people that control our government. just like the police forces that protect our cities, the people in our paid military know full well the risks of signing up.

I'm totally moving to Canada...
..even tho the Leafs suck.
Anyone got a room?

Although I agree with your comments and what you think of the armed forces, I can give a rats ass right now.
All I know is that my brother is going out for war. I could give a shit how much money anyone has right now.
All I was asking for was a bit of advise. I wasn't worried about your views on the government. But thanks anyways. I understand where you are coming from.

goodmorning everyone.
i know that anything i say to you Fresh right now will not change things. sure, i don't agree with the expected war and i feel like everyone else does about it. but, regardless of what any of us think or say, your brother is shipping out. all we can do is hope that he returns safely and with a good conscience. sorry to hear about this Fresh, much love to you and your family. all we can do is hope.

he'll be fine man. can you go visit him before he leaves?
- freshmode0
I am leaving this freelance assignment to spend these next few days with him. I have 2 weeks left here but i'm not to worried. The wifie will hold down the fort for a while.
I just hope I can find something when he leaves. Anyone have anything they can refer me to that would be fresh.
Thanks fellas for your support. I just have to wait now to see what these people are going to do about me leaving.

lilbabyleg-
paid or not, it doesn't change the fact that this iraq conflict has more to do with conquest than national security... soldiers sign up to protect their country, not advance the economic interests of a couple of oil companies
a war with iraq is going to do more to hinder national security than it will do to improve it.

i wish you the best once again, fresh. things will be alright, just keep faith.

I fully agree that this "war" is about conquest and has little or nothing to do with US national security.
thus the rant about the paid military. I was being a lil insensitive to fresh's original post though, so I will save this for another thread.

I know of a couple guys who were in the marines and army. and it's true, if you didn't know before, once you are in you realize. oh shit this isn't about protecting my country's freedom, it's about protecting my countires "interests"... in other words investments and resources abroad.
so one guy was proud of this and is still gung ho about conquering the "dirty arabs" and keeping them in check... the other guy started this site :

good thing i live over here in Taiwan, nobody'll bomb us here, especially not Bush, right?..
..right?
.... . . . hello?
- IloveQBN0
I hope the war won't happen. Bush is such a bully, why do they pick fights with smaller countries?
good luck to all the soldiers!

i can tell you from personal experience that a war with iraq.. dependent on what branch of servic and what unit a person serves with can range from a walk in the park to a walk in hell.
when i left for desert shield/storm i was assigned to the 82nd airborne division. basically.. we were speed bumps in the sand.
sure we would have fought like hell but had the iraqis come through with tanks.. we'd have been toast.
that said.. they didnt. most of the war happened on in the east with some sporadic engagement from iraqi soldiers who stayed behind.
no i think that back then iraqis were behind sadamn as much as they are now.. i also know that after us military might rains down on you ... sometimes there isnt much fight left in the enemy. this may sound like a lot of shit talking and i am sorry but i am speaking from what i know to be true.. not boasting about perceived american military might.
