uses Paintshop Pro for graphics...
uses Front Page Express for an HTML editor...
uses and tags every chance he can get...
insists on putting an american flag into every design i make...
doesn't care for style sheets...
hates iframes and framesets...
hates flash for sites but likes obnoxious banners made in them...
only likes sites that use Arial at 12pt...
throws too many obscure pictures into websites...
thinks the greatest 3d graphic program is uLathe...
prefers html text in place of graphic buttons for sake of search engines...
doesn't use ANY macromedia OR adobe products...
lacks focus on a consistent color scheme...
pretty much stuck in 1997.
does anyone else have a boss like this?
- The_Letter_F0

The only thing he does right is uses HTML text for the sake of search engines.
The rest, I'm sorry, why don't you just find another job....
- The_Letter_F0
F that...
my boss doesnt even know what NT is...
but he still thinks gabocorp is the greatest site out!

oh, i am looking for a new job...buhleeeeeeeve me...
except jobs are hard to come by these days and its not ALL that bad here. there are other reasons (more meaningful) why i am looking for another job. not just bc my boss prefers microsoft over macromedia.

yeah well about a month ago my boss touched me, first it was all innocent and accidental, then the rubbing up would start. After about a week He would start making low growling noises, and last night he properly buggered me in the software cuboard.
He says its what all junior designers have to endure, and I should count myself lucky to have a job for the Soham Parish News

my old boss' webskills - he had none and used to output graphics from quark to put into photoshop to place in freeway (?). here is one of his awesome sites http://www.leekes.co.uk, check the button on the front. i'll spare sending you his homepage as the amount of laffs would pop his server

Check out the Heroine Sheiks song, "My Boss" something tells me that you will love it.

truth be known, many of our bosses are from dinosaur designers blossomed during the late 80's and early 90's so naturally there creative talents are based on that neon and contrasting color scheme that was of so "fresh" back then.
Your boss really is a testament of a design poser in the truest sense. Design is an ever changing and subjective industry. It moves with the times and establishes trends. Your boss doesn't seem to believe in this nor does he truly understand design as a means of communication.
My advice, line something else up before you quit because the job market is brutal out there right now. Perhaps, do as I have been doing and occupy your free time by experimenting on your own with design in general. For instance, right now I am learning some bookbinding on my own and trying to create a series of small books for my drawrings. I would definitely look for some other type of creative outlet outside of work because it sounds like his crap design skills are driving you nuts!!!
good luck!

thats both great (humorous)... and shitty at the same time... the first post about your boss that is.
Having your own stuff going on the side is a real source of salvation. Not only does it give you a more suitable artisitc outlet, but yuo can prove to yourself that your not sinking to the level your job forces you to work at. anyone who has worked for a less than ideal firm can understand how little say we sometimes end up with our work... its frustrating as hell though, especially if you really have a passion for what you do.
We have a couple clients right now who are in the process of butchering some of my design work... theyve pretty much undone everything good i did, kept the bad, and added a bunch of their own tripe ideas... they wont listen to a single sensible argumetn i try and provide. even the fact that theyre now 'happy' with the site brings me little to no joy... I ALMOST enjoy arguing points using solid design principles to have them come back and say, yes but my mother-in law didnt care for that color scheme... I would have never thought a multi million dollar construction company would defer business decsions to one of the managers mother in laws, but apparently it happens.
in the end though, i'd rather be working in this industry and suffer the odd shitty job, and continue to learn, than be making more money in a job i cared less about. Even on the shitty jobs, you can always sneak in the odd fulfilling element or feature.
i agree with what someone said up yonder... look for a new job, but i wouldnt give up the steady paycheck until youve got something in the bag.
and ya... dig your site dsmith7... ive gained a new respect for rosewood.

sounds like you work on casino sites or something.

neeko,
everything you said i can relate with. it is sad when you get completely excited about a design you are doing then when the client walks in, they want to rape it like a 12 year old child.
