truth be known, many of our bosses are from dinosaur designers blossomed during the late 80's and early 90's so naturally there creative talents are based on that neon and contrasting color scheme that was of so "fresh" back then.
Your boss really is a testament of a design poser in the truest sense. Design is an ever changing and subjective industry. It moves with the times and establishes trends. Your boss doesn't seem to believe in this nor does he truly understand design as a means of communication.
My advice, line something else up before you quit because the job market is brutal out there right now. Perhaps, do as I have been doing and occupy your free time by experimenting on your own with design in general. For instance, right now I am learning some bookbinding on my own and trying to create a series of small books for my drawrings. I would definitely look for some other type of creative outlet outside of work because it sounds like his crap design skills are driving you nuts!!!
