I have been at work now for four days and nights, because of much work, only napping over my keyboard a few minutes now and then.
I have been working overnight before, but never for this long period. Earlier when working two nights in row I have had problems with sleeping afterwards and feeling exhausted and empty for days.
I feel strange now and makes lots of errors and working slower and slower and do not make fast and right desicions. It´s like I am dreaming.
When serving the army I experienced a five day exersice without sleep and not much food. There were also much physical training. Now I am eating well and drinking lots of water, taking it easy, but using my brain alot (as I am working with desicionmaking, clients, designs etc.).
I am experiencing a harder time now than I did in the army exercise. I am going from feeling very unconfortable both mentally and physically to having a dreamy light feeling between sleep and awake.
Now I am getting curios to see how long I can go on and what I will experience, after having been on it for so long time already. When do I just collapse? What happens?
I know lots of designers working with deadlines work nights. What is your experience? Could it be REALLY dangerous? How long is it possible to stay awake? What happens?
ps. I know this is not recommended, and I guess it could be dangerous somehow. I should be finished with all my work in like four hours from now, and will be able to sleep till monday. still it would be interresting to go on? or am I just turning totally idiot now?

i have bad serious sleeping problems for about 7 years..
i cant sleep before 3 am every night no matter how tired i am..
but awake between 8 pm to 3 am
best working hours..i have been trying to fix with .. eh.. herbal remedies for years but doesnt work..
you need to get your body in to cycle of excercise and eatting habits..
but mind you this is VERY hard if you work in a creative environment...
so go see a sleep disorder doctor before you turn out like me..
o doc said, it will take years of physical and psychological therophy to change my habit...

i always crawl the nights....
It's inhumane to get up and work at 9am....who ever thought of that? I mean, that is torture...
the only times I get up in the morning is when I have client meetings.......with lots and lots of coffee that is!
4.39 am and about to go to bed....

And here I thought I was the only one with fucked up sleeping habits...
Usually up by noon and go to sleep at 3 or 4 am. I can sometimes get my internal clock going "normal" but it doesn't las too long.
- ok_static0
ok, i decided not to sleep until tonite...hoping my inner clock ticking right again.
- quamb0
hey got the same probs too :(
hate it! think am going to have to torture myself and get up at 9am for a few days to get back into the scheme of things.

i too am a 2PM - 5AM man... i think those are good creative hours... you get enough sleep that youre not tired, and its nice and quiet and focussed when youre working. my boss gave up on trying to get me in earlier. 9-5 is for the birds.
- widz0
It's a biological fact that after 11 days and nights of no sleep you will die.
- neeko0
we'll see about that.

ok. what about this:
if you are self employed or at school, work late all the time is ok and fun.
if you do this for a company, why would you want to destroy your health and sociallife for someone else? is it really worth it to become a zombie because someone could prepare work right?
- petzi0
--> could NOT prepare...
- ok_static0
I believe most of the folks suffering from this are probably self-employed or work freelanced, at least I am.
