I have a client who wishes to transfer his domain to a new host. I just found out that if you register a domain with the client's existing host, they own it(!), not the one who registered it. So basically it's impossible to switch host since the name actually belongs to them.
I just read through their sign-up page, and there's not a single word that describes this, nor can I find an explanation elsewhere on their site.
Now, this can't be legal, can it?

its shared domain lease..
yuo are leasing the domain and that is why its cheap...if in your original contract, it didnt specify the it is a shared contract you should have the domain..
contract them via phone and ask them what the status (domain co/hosting)..
and search under networksolutions and see who comes up..

You might want to check out ICANN's site for information about this...or maybe contact them directly.

Yikes! That's a really bad situation.
It will interesting to find out how you/client will resolve this problem.
What country is this registrar based in. out of curiosity?
