Hi
I have Windows Advanced Server 2000 installed on my machine at home, and was trying to configure the domain that i own...www.kevindega.com to it...
i am totally lost about doing this...could some please help me?

Are you using IIS as your web server?
You will need to set up a DNS server, or have your current DNS point to your IP.
Why not just read the documentation?

i did read, im not entirley familiar with everything they are talking about. I am using IIS web server.....and I believe i have the DNS setup too.....

If you did read it, and cannot still understand, you should leave it alone, this is not a "let's-do-it-quickly" thing, go back and read it dude. It takes a few important steps like: upgrading your computer to a domain controller, if it's not already, setup necessary services (DNS, DHCP, etc), setup of your internet access (dedicated IP), installing of IIS, then your pages. Sounds easy, but it needs planning, so go back and read dude.

:) Doesnt sound like he has the manual Macaso. One of those "free" editions maybe.

Sounds like you're correct Nirvous, he need to invest on one a nice book, I'd recommend: "Mastering windows 2000 Server" by Mark Minasi, is not only about IIS, or other web services, but, i'll give the guy a deeper understanding on terminlogy and what to do to get his Network up and kicking.

Go invest in a book dega. One of the "Bible" books would probably be your best bet. Setting a server is both easy and difficult...you just need a good foundation.

Something to note, WAS 2000 is definately overkill for anything he is trying to do.
Honestly, and this isn't because I loathe Windows servers, but he should just set up a small Linux box with Apache and such.
It is much easier, from a learning curve, standpoint.
WAS 2000 is overkill for anything below a 500-1000 person enterprise office building. Plus stability and complexity of setting up and maintaining the box.
I understand the "I got a new toy" sendrome, but seriously, WAS 2000 isn't that great.
It would take me more time to tell him how to set up this MS server, than to explain how to set up a Linux web server.

Does anyone know how to setup DNS on an Apache Server? Or how to create (or know) my IP adress!
Any good tutorials regarding this subjects are welcome.
thx in advance,
T.

DNS isn't set up in Apache, DNS is it's own server. You can find plenty of DNS server utilities for Windows and Linux on the web.
Apache simply talks with DNS to resolve name -> IP issues.
Second, your provider will give you a static IP. You can't create and IP.
You can use private class IP's that Routers supply to users (i.e. 192...) but you still have to have the static to be seen 'online'.
The Oriely DNS/Bind book is a great resource.
You can find loads of information online by searching for "dns/bind" in google.
To find out your IP, on Windows, just open up a DOS Command line and type "ipconfig /all" (for XP, WIN2K).
On Linux you can use "ifconfig" or "netcfg" (not sure about the latter, though). "ifconfig" is also used to set your network identity on the NIC interface.
Example:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.130 upwould set your NIC card to use IP 192.168.1.130 and then (up) amke it active.
