Has anyone done it? Can you recommend the best site? I'm in the market now and would love to do it online to save some time.
thx

Deanna,
Your brave, I would never, NEVER buy a car without driving it. Sit in it, check the glove box and such. It’s the stupid things that will make you hate a car.
If you want to check out cars for specs and reviews check http://www.edmunds.com.
I hope that helps.

Thanks propa...no, no...I'd of course test drive the car. I'd just like to do something like throw out a bid where dealers have to compete for me and THEN go to the best offer and test drive. Is that a fantasy?
I just spent yesterday going to different dealers and they are so creepy! I'd like to minimize my car salesman exposure. :)

My father bought a 1996 300ZX Twin Turbo in Florida and had it shipped to Connetcticut. He never saw it and never drove it before paying the $28k or so (it's got some add ons).
We just asked for 2 dozen close up pics, purchase info, etc.
It arrived and was as stated. It's by far the most beautiful Z I've ever seen (the 3 piece rims are the nicest I've seen, Stillen exhaust, etc.). So there was no where else in the country that he could get it, would have taken too much time to fly to Fl.
It was worth it. Just do your homework.I've also got a friend that bought a new Beetle online. Again, perfect, but this one was picked up at a dealer that worked with the online place.
My pops found his at:
http://www.autotrader.comI'd got for it if you are buying new, you'll get the EXACT options you want and get a good price without the nonsensical dealings of a 'negotiation'.
What are you getting?

I almost got burnt leasing a car. They told me I had to sign a paper before I could get a credit check. I said “I just want to see if I can get approved”, they in turn said “that’s all were go do here”. The next day I get a call at work and they said “congratulations Mr. White you have a car.”
Anyways I get down there and say "I have a what" and they say "I already bought the car by signing the paper." Fortunately I don’t take any shit and told them to F*&( off and they could keep the car. Anyways after they tell me I going to get sued and they will wreck me, I told them go ahead and try, I’ll see you in the paper and on the 6’ O’Clock news.
Finally they offered me a better car of the same price and got a good deal in the end I guess. But that Bullsh!t left a bad taste in my mouth.
I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t sign nothing til those mofo’s give you what you want. Trust me they need you more than you need them.
As for the online and submitting bids, I pretty sure there is a site for that but not sure what it is.

From carsdirect.com, fill out a form for the car of your choice. A dealer will get in touch w/ you via email or phone after that.
Whatever price the dealer gives you on the car, either FAX or call up every dealer of that make in a 50 mile radius. Let them fight it out.
