just picked me up one last week.
30 megs/second transfer time.i planned on backing up my stuff all night....
took me less than 15 minutes to transfer around 10-12 gigs.
nice look/feel.
sounds cool spooling up.
quicker than shit.
paid $269 at the apple store.i would definitely recommend it.

i just got a 40 gig pocket drive, powered by the firewire connection. It seems to have sent my internal hard drive loopy, eating up imaginary chunks of HD space just by opening Photoshop ! Whats that all about ?

I would go for the Maxtors, personally. They've gotten stellar reviews lately (look ar PC Mag and PC World) and they are much cheaper than the LaCies. I am going for the 200GB external, 7200rpm, for $400.
But here's a 120GB, 7200rpm for $300
NOTE: these are firewire and usb 2/1 compatibile, unlike the LaCies that you have to buy a specific oneMaxtor Personal Storage 5000DV - 120GB 7200RPM (1394/USB 2.0 Combo)
Part # T01J120 $299.99

if you really wanna back stuff up, dvds are getting really cheap and you can get a burner for about the same...
just whatever you do, avoid SMARTDISK like the freakin plague...
had a defective drive.. sent it back.. took them 4 weeks to send back the WRONG drive.. then they wouldnt refund me cus it had been over 30 days (their fault)..

go for a 200 Wester Digital HDD fastest and most stable in my opinion. Especially 200 the bigger they are the faster they go.

Hell no Do not get a Maxtor drive!
I don't know what reviews youve heard but Maxxtors die like hell. Ask surfito!
The video department in my old school saw maxtors drop like fies in one semester.
Go with Western Digital I heard CompUSA has a good deal right now.
From my research Lacie's are the best. For the mac that is. But Im saving up for a WD 120GB Drive myself because is cheaper!

I'm doing Retrospect backups every night , 50GB of content stuff to a LaCie D2 120GB drive , never switch it off...seems to work well so far...

Ok, not as good as I originally thought. Sorry, glad someone said something. I'll still buy one because it comes with Firewire and USB (I've got one computer with fw, one with usb 1, and one with usb 2), the others don't (to my knowledge).
Here's links, though:
