We need some very simple 3d graphics for a project. Essentially some cubes and cylinders. Probably won't use it for a whole lot more. I can probably do it by hand, but I'm curious to know what alternatives there are.
I only get to do graphics about 15% of the time, even though that's what I was hired for. It was hard enough getting them to spring for photoshop.. they won't go for anything too expensive..
what software would you reccomend?

Vector Effects can easily handle cubes and stuff like that. You should look into it. It's about $150-$200, I think. It's far superior to Dimensions.

If it's for the web, check out Swift 3D or Plasma.
http://www.swift3d.com (maybe?)
http://www.discreet.com (for Plasma)For a good all around program, check out Cinema 4D XL, you can buy it in pieces.

"The Persistence of Vision Raytracer is a high-quality, totally free tool for creating stunning three-dimensional graphics. It is available in official versions for Windows, Mac OS/Mac OS X and i86 Linux. The source code is available for those wanting to do their own ports."
