hi folks
how come if i try to print from quark it just makes a log file and nothing else?

using quark 5.
trying to print to acrobat distiller (only choice it lets me have)hmmm :/

Try making a post script file first and then putting that into Distiller. That way maybe you could see if it's a Quark issue or a Distiller issue. In Distiller you can change some settings too. Quark 5 seems to have some printing issues.

just as an overview im making some artwork for print that needs to be in PDF and have crop/bleed marks in.
i have my artwork finished up in illustrator, so i just want to make the appropriate bleed/crop marks in quark, and throw my artwork in, and then export to pdf if this is poss

i haven't used Quark% (i use InDesign) but there should be an option in the print dialogue box to either print to fille or to use the virtual printer.
you can also add crop marks in Illy. I can't remember what menu it's under at the moment (i jut woke up and my laptop doesn't have Illy) but the sub menu is "Add". just increase your paper size to accommodate for the crop marks. you can export from there

im looking at:
PAGE Type: 269 x 190mm
PAGE Trim: 300 x 222mm
PAGE Bleed: 310 x 232mmnow.. does my page when i click "new" in illy wanna be the bleed or trim size? or type? ummm

Illustrator always outputs a reliable PDF. That's just how superior Adobe products are to stupid, antiquated Quark.
If you ever have to output a post script file from Quark you can do it by looking in the print dialogue box and there is a drop down that defaults to printer that you can change to "file"
