heh again man...time and place.
you just walked into an anime convention screeming 'fuck the world!' you are preaching to the quire. the poster wants to mimic japanese pop culture, he/she wasn't fishing for a history lesson or a smack on the wrist for saying jap. racism stems from hatred of a race, not a facination. i've seen racism, and this is not it. comment like 'suck a dick' are some peoples limited vocabulary telling you 'chill out' or 'you are being to militant for no reason'
anyway this has gone off topic too long.

I'll take your claim that you personally were offended by the abbreviation "Jap" at face value because I can't look into your heart and discern whether that's the case or you just decided to throw out the "R" word for kicks.
Without a doubt, there are racist elements in American society (this seem to be the case in all nations that aren't 100% racially homogeneous), but it would be a mistake to characterize the country as a whole as racist.
Accusations of racism ought to be reserved for cases where the racist intent is clear and the charges can be substantiated. Using it casually is a disservice to society ("boy who cried wolf" syndrome) and cruel - because racism is a real evil that does touch so many of our lives, many people will react viscerally and attack someone who has been branded as a racist without stopping to consider for themselves whether there's any truth to the charge.

I think most you arte getting too politicaly correct. If an Aussie calls me a Pomme I couldnt give a flying crap. If I call an American a Yank (correct me if Im wrong) they dont mind. Jap is not even a nickname so much as an abbreviation!

being Asian and being called pretty much all the Asian slangs out there, I still would be rightly pissed to be called "jap" "ch**k", etc. I still hear people say "let's get some chi*k food" ...I find it repulsive. I don't ever say lets get some
wop food, spic food, etc.... the term jap may be just a shortening of the word japanese, but it still don't fly with the asian races. All ou caucasians out there...just don't say it...no matter how you slice it, it's just plain FUC*EN RUDE!

You are right tho...if you hear somone say lets get chick_food that is the time to speak out, or punch them in the mouth
(which ever comes first)
BUT...not when someone uses jap as short for japanese.
